Job Title: Youth Programs Coordinator Department: Education and Public Engagement (EPE) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Status: Full-Time Hours Per Week: 40 hours, Monday-Friday, 10 AM- 6 PM (Some evenings and weekends) Union Position: Yes Salary: $66,312.02 Reports to: Assistant Director of Education Grade Level: 2 Start Date: July 1, 2026 YOUTH PROGRAMS COORDINATOR POSITION DESCRIPTION The New Museum of Contemporary Art is seeking a full-time Youth Programs Coordinator. Working within the Education and Public Engagement department, this role will assist in the coordination and implementation of the museum's new teen initiatives, the NewMu Teen Fellowship and the Bowery Art Space drop-in program, as well as with the School Partnership program. The NewMu Teen Fellowship is a two-year, intensive after-school program for New York City high school students. Working directly with artists, museum staff, and community members, fellows gain creative and professional development through mentorship, work experience, and leadership opportunities. Their voices and ideas are amplified by projects including an exhibition of their art and a Youth Summit. The Bowery Art Space is a monthly, after-school, drop-in program for high school students. Facilitated by the New Museum's Teaching Artists and guided by the museum's learner-centered and culturally sustaining pedagogy, teens experiment with materials through hands-on workshops and explore artworks through discussion. The School Partnership program provides high school teachers and students with resources, workshops, museum tours, and direct interaction with artists to support the New York Department of Education's Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-S) framework. Dedicated Teaching Artists work with teachers to create lesson plans that highlight marginalized voices and support the diverse racial, linguistic, and cultural identities of students within NYC's public schools. Hours Per Week: 40 hours, Monday-Friday, 10 AM- 6 PM (Some evenings and weekends) Start Date: July 1, 2026 RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the New Museum's teen programs, the NewMu Teen Fellowship and the Bowery Art Space. With oversight from the Assistant Director of Education and collaboration with New Museum Teaching Artists, develop curricula for the NewMu Teen Fellowship and Bowery Art Space drop-in program. Teach across programming areas on an as-needed basis. Facilitate all administrative tasks related to teen programming, including scheduling Teaching Artists and guest artists, processing invoices and receipts, maintaining department files and calendars, organizing field trips and artist visits, and coordinating communications with teenagers, parents, and teachers. Support Teaching Artists with curriculum development for School Partnerships and build connections across teens, school, and educator programs. Assist with creating and managing budgets for current and future programming. Oversee all aspects of tracking program statistics that includes preparing mid- and end of year reports for grants. Assist with the development and implementation of evaluation projects. Provide day-of support for all teen programs, including weekly sessions, large-scale teen events and off-site field trips. Work closely with other departments across the Museum to coordinate all logistics for teen programs and events. With assistance from the Assistant Director of Education, work to cultivate and sustain relationships with local high schools and develop an outreach and recruitment strategy. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum five years of relevant experience in arts administration, youth education, and/or teaching. BA or BFA in Art History, Art Education, or related field required; MA or MFA, or significant equivalent experience is preferred. Experience developing programming for NYC high school students. Exemplary oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of contemporary art and relevant learning theories, acquired through study and practice. Demonstrated success in generating and maintaining mutually respectful communication and attentive engagement with groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, experiences, and identities. Knowledge of the New York Department of Education's Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-S) framework preferred Language skills are a plus, especially in Spanish or Mandarin.
