Instrumentation Technologist I Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Summary The Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, and self‑motivated MRI Technologist who is enthusiastic about advancing both clinical care and imaging‑based research. As part of the WIMR Imaging Medical Services team, this individual will translate innovative imaging science into high‑quality patient care while supporting UW Radiology’s mission of discovery, education, and excellence in clinical service. In this role, the MRI Technologist will support both clinical and research imaging operations, performing daily MRI and PET/MRI examinations for standard of care clinical needs as well as research studies. Responsibilities also include managing data associated with imaging‑based research projects and educating, training, and supervising researchers on MRI and PET/MRI scanner operations and imaging techniques. Additional duties include preparing daily billing invoices for research imaging, supporting ACR accreditation activities, and fostering a collaborative environment that ensures efficient, safe, and high‑quality imaging for clinical teams, investigators, and study participants. Department School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Radiology, MRI Research Services Additional Job Details This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. Typical work hours for this position are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with 8‑hour shifts scheduled Monday through Friday. There are no on‑call responsibilities or holiday shifts. However, start and end times may be adjusted slightly earlier or later to meet departmental needs and ensure appropriate coverage for both clinical and research imaging workflows. Final scheduling details will be determined at the time of hire. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every two years. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles; Instrumentation Technologist I, Instrumentation Tech II. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Key Job Responsibilities Answers questions and provides technical information regarding instrumentation to staff, researchers, clients, and students. Prepares daily billing invoices for MRI research exams and completes billing procedures for clinical standard of care exams within HealthLink. Develops, integrates, tests, and modifies sophisticated scientific equipment to support research/clinical initiatives and unit directives. Assists with the preparation of grant proposals and applicable documentation. Designs, plans, and performs preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation. Performs clinical standard of care MRI and PET/MRI examinations. Investigates new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research/clinical staff, students, and clients. Provides technical expertise to staff, researchers, clients, and students in the installation and use of equipment and instruments, exercising discretion and independent judgment to meet unit goals. Compensation The starting salary for hire into the Instrumentation Technologist I title is $68,000 and the starting salary for hire into the Instrumentation Tech II title is $79,000. Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for a hiring bonus in the amount of $5,000. Required Qualifications Completed an accredited medical program in Radiology Technology. Preferred Qualifications Experience with MRI Imaging. Education Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; with science specialization preferred but will consider candidates without degree who are otherwise qualified and/or have completed an accredited medical program in Radiology Technology.
