Medical Assistant

McLaren Port Huron

This position is weekdays only, Monday-Friday 8a-5p; no weekends/holidays/on-call.

Position Summary: Responsible for a variety of tasks from administrative work to patient and physician support tasks at physician offices, medical clinics and other facilities. Performs or assists in a variety of medical procedures and tests in the examination and treatment of patients, including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatments, administering medications and performing venipuncture.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Supports the mission and vision of McLaren Port Huron through behaviors that reflect and integrate our values, as evidenced by observation, peer and customer feedback.
2. Obtains and records patient medical histories, vital signs, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
3. Performs daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.
4. Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.
5. Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
6. Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
7. Prepares and administers medications for patients as directed by physicians.
8. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a medical assistant program.
• BLS Certification.

Preferred:

• One (1) year of experience in a medical setting.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope.
2. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
3. Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.

Physical Requirements: (X) Sedentary Work: Lifting 10 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Although sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

X Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree, or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
