Retail Staff Pharmacist

This position contributes to the fulfillment of the organization's vision and mission by providing prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals according to professional standards and practices. Reports to the Retail Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy. Days; Non-Exempt, Full-Time status. Job qualifications include a pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy and licensure through the successful passage of a licensure exam. A PharmD is preferred along with three years of retail experience as a Pharmacist. Must possess good communication skills, both written and verbal. Responsible for preparing and dispensing all medications within the facilities. Oversees non-pharmacist personnel involved in the medication use process and ensures that all prescription and medication orders are accurate, complete, and appropriate for the individual patient. Maintains relationships with medical and nursing staff, providing timely information pertaining to pharmaceuticals, therapeutic options, and drug usage. Conducts and evaluates medication use reviews as needed, assessing patient compliance and outcomes. Suggests modifications to achieve desired outcomes. Instructs patients in the proper use of prescribed drugs and makes patient care rounds with physicians as needed. Individualizes medication regimens using sound principles and accounts for pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic variations. Responsible for establishing and continuously improving the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients within areas of direct responsibility. Ensures medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely in accordance with state and federal requirements. Responds to medication-related queries from within the organization and the general public. Maintains strict standards of confidentiality, complying with HIPAA recommendations and regulations. Keeps up to date with drug knowledge and healthcare developments in collaboration with medical staff and colleagues. Writes guidelines for drug use within healthcare facilities and prepares drug and therapeutic bulletins. Provides information related to budgets and drug expenditures. Processes all cash and credit transactions as required. Attends required meetings and participates in facility and community committees as requested. Mentors healthcare professionals in training, including pharmacy, medical, and nursing students. Provides monthly consulting to long-term care facilities. Performs other duties as needed by the facility. Maintains and promotes good health practices. Conforms to procedures and policies of the organization. Will perform all duties as described by the job description within the scope of licensure. Understands and complies with the requirements of the Compliance Program. Participates in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy. Demonstrates formal greetings with patients and staff. Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change. Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care. Maintains high personal hygiene standards. Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a caring philosophy with all patients and staff. Working conditions include an indoor, smoke-free, climate-controlled environment. Possible exposure to unpleasant odors or fumes and intermittent unpleasant conditions. Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level. Possible exposure and contact with biohazardous materials and communicable diseases. Frequent contact with patients, families, and employees of other departments. Health risks may be associated with workplace exposures to hazardous drugs. Pharmacy staff are required to be fitted annually for a filtered respirator.
