STEP, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager I to oversee construction and weatherization projects, provide technical leadership in the field, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with program requirements.

This position combines project management, construction supervision, estimating, quality control, customer interaction, and hands-on technical expertise across a variety of residential construction and energy-efficiency projects.

What You'll Do

As a Project Manager I, you will be responsible for the daily management of assigned projects, including job setup, crew preparation, direct supervision, project documentation, and resolving job site issues. You will work closely with customers, subcontractors, and program staff to ensure successful project completion.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Completing audits and estimates to determine project scope and material requirements.
• Conducting in-home energy education sessions and completing required documentation.
• Supervising construction personnel performing electrical, plumbing, rough carpentry, and finish carpentry work.
• Reviewing project requirements with crews and providing field leadership and technical support.
• Ensuring compliance with building codes, permits, zoning requirements, historic approvals, and other applicable regulations.
• Performing quality control inspections and authorizing corrective work when necessary.
• Entering estimated and actual job costs into program systems for invoicing.
• Utilizing diagnostic equipment and construction-related instruments, including blower doors, combustion analyzers, laser levels, transits, and back-drafting gauges.
• Training program staff as assigned.
• Investigating customer concerns and ensuring project quality standards are met.
• Supervising multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and documentation.
• Supporting warehouse operations and physical inventory activities as required.
• Ensuring lead-based paint environmental controls and occupant safety requirements are properly followed.
• Participating in on-call responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a Housing & Building Initiatives Construction Supervisor II or experience and/or technical training in construction, building trades, or a related discipline demonstrating a thorough understanding of construction theory and techniques, including advanced carpentry, estimating related to weatherization activities, building science, or a combination of education and experience.
• Computer training and/or demonstrated proficiency with word processing and database software.
• Experience with or training in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

Preferred

• Construction estimating experience or experience in a related field.

• Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analysis Certification.
