SUBSTITUTE BUS OPERATOR

Position Summary

Pendleton County Schools is seeking dependable, safety-conscious individuals to serve as Substitute Bus Operators. The Substitute Bus Operator is responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school and school-sponsored activities while following all applicable West Virginia Department of Education transportation requirements and Pendleton County Board of Education policies and procedures.

Salary

Compensation shall be in accordance with the WV Service Personnel Salary Schedule.

Terms of Employment

Employment, compensation, and working conditions shall be governed by West Virginia Code, West Virginia Board of Education regulations, West Virginia Department of Education transportation requirements, Pendleton County Board of Education policies and procedures, and the approved service personnel salary schedule. Substitutes will be on a day-to-day basis.

HOURS

As assigned Day-to-Day and determined by the Director of Transportation

Required Qualifications

• Possess or obtain a valid CDL with required endorsements.
• Successfully complete West Virginia School Bus Operator training and certification requirements.
• Successfully complete required physical examinations, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and background checks.
• Maintain an acceptable driving record.
• Meet all qualifications established by the West Virginia Department of Education Office of School Transportation.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Safely transport students on assigned routes and activity trips.
• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
• Follow all state and county transportation regulations.
• Maintain discipline and a safe environment on the bus.
• Complete required transportation records and reports.
• Report accidents, safety concerns, maintenance issues, and student concerns.
• Follow emergency procedures during accidents, mechanical breakdowns, or medical emergencies.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the assigned vehicle.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Transportation Director or Superintendent/designee.
