TxDOT is seeking a Records Management Intern to join our enterprise Records Management team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will gain hands‑on experience working with both physical and electronic records while learning about record retention, disposition, organization, compliance, and the day‑to‑day work that supports effective government operations. This opportunity is a great fit for students interested in Information Science, Library Science, records management, public administration, government, or related fields. The internship is paid and continues year‑round, with a schedule of up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Work involves supporting the organization, storage, retrieval, review, and disposition of TxDOT records in both physical and electronic formats. Duties may include assisting with records warehouse activities; processing physical record boxes; using standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, printers, copiers, carts, and filing or labeling supplies; entering and tracking information in Microsoft Office applications or other approved systems; preparing and reviewing basic program documents; and helping identify opportunities to improve or modernize records management processes. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor. Process physical record requests for the Stassney Record Warehouse, including requests to process records into the warehouse and requests to retrieve records in the warehouse. Assist with record disposition efforts in the Stassney Records Warehouse. Assists in drafting and reviewing program documents, such as process documentation, retention schedule amendments, training presentations, and other documents as directed. Assist with updating agency‑wide training materials and policy documents. Explore opportunities to modernize and improve Records Management processes using emerging technologies, including low‑code tools, automation, and artificial intelligence. Assist with other Records Management activities as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution. Other Conditions: Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school. Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Library Science, or similar program at any level.
