At Engelberg Care Home, we are seeking a Kitchen Assistant or Cook to join our already established team. The Home Situated within the tranquil surroundings of Ash Hill in Compton, Engelberg provides a warm and familiar environment. With 34 modern bedrooms, Engelberg is distinguished by its warm, friendly and homely atmosphere. The Role We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant or Cook to support the preparation and service of high-quality meals for our residents. Training will be provided for the right candidate. Kitchen Assistant – Key Responsibilities Assist with food preparation as directed by the Chef. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including washing up and sanitising equipment. Support with serving meals and drinks as required. Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. Report any maintenance issues, incidents, or accidents to the Head Cook. Cook – Key Responsibilities Prepare and serve balanced, high-quality meals in line with residents’ dietary needs and preferences. Support the Head Chef in menu planning, stock control, and ordering supplies. Ensure compliance with food hygiene, safety, and HACCP standards. Assist in supervising and training kitchen staff as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment at all times. Adapt meals for residents with modified or specialist diets. Contribute to a positive dining experience that promotes residents’ wellbeing. Skills & Experience Previous experience in a professional kitchen, ideally within a care or hospitality environment. Knowledge of dietary needs and nutritional requirements for older adults. Food Hygiene certificate (Level 2 or above). Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a small team.
