The Nursing Program in the Department of Biology at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 2027. The program seeks a versatile nurse scholar-educator whose teaching, clinical expertise, and scholarship will complement a growing prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. We welcome candidates with expertise in one or more areas of nursing education and practice. Areas that may complement current and anticipated program needs include community and population health; nursing leadership and management; health policy and health care systems; pediatrics; adult and older adult health; maternal-child health; psychiatric-mental health nursing; evidence-based practice and nursing research; health assessment; and advanced nursing practice. Loyola's direct-entry BSN program, which welcomed its first cohort in Fall 2025, combines rigorous professional nursing education with Loyola Maryland's Jesuit, Catholic liberal arts tradition. We emphasize ethical practice, social justice, health equity, clinical judgment, leadership, and care of the whole person. The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty team and contribute to teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, and partnerships with health care and community organizations in Baltimore and the surrounding region.

Tenure-track faculty teach 6 courses per academic year (5 in their first year) and engage actively in their area of research expertise. Tenure-track faculty apply for a tenure-track research sabbatical (typically in their 4th year) and can apply for funds to support teaching innovations and research-related expenses. Additional funding is available for professional travel, and may include research start-up costs.

In addition to teaching (50%) and research (30%) expectations, tenure-track faculty participate meaningfully in the life of the department and university through service (20%). Following initial accreditation of the BSN program and subject to all required institutional, Maryland Board of Nursing, Maryland Higher Education Commission, and accreditor approvals, the successful candidate may also contribute to the assessment, planning, and development of post-BSN and graduate nursing education. Potential future pathways may include advanced practice nursing, nursing education, nursing leadership, population health, or other areas aligned with Loyola's mission, workforce needs, and faculty expertise.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate nursing courses consistent with the candidate's academic preparation, clinical expertise, scholarly interests, and the needs of the BSN program.
• Contribute to didactic, clinical, laboratory, simulation, community-based, and technology-enhanced learning experiences, as appropriate to assigned courses and the approved faculty workload.
• Use inclusive, evidence-based, and competency-based teaching practices that support the learning and success of students from varied backgrounds and experiences.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate nursing students and support their academic, professional, leadership, and scholarly development.
• Develop and sustain a focused program of scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track appointment and the candidate's disciplinary expertise.
• Disseminate scholarship through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other recognized scholarly products and pursue appropriate internal and external funding.
• Develop and sustain reciprocal academic-practice and community partnerships that advance student learning, professional nursing practice, community priorities, and scholarly inquiry.
• Contribute to curriculum development and revision, implementation of the AACN Essentials, systematic program evaluation, student-learning and program-outcome assessment, continuous quality improvement, regulatory reporting, and CCNE accreditation activities.
• Following initial BSN accreditation and receipt of all required approvals, contribute as appropriate to strategic assessment and possible development of post-BSN and graduate nursing education, including advanced practice, education, leadership, population health, or other pathways.
• Participate in faculty governance and service at the program, department, college, university, professional, and community levels.
• Maintain professional competence, an active and unencumbered registered nurse license, and expertise appropriate to assigned teaching responsibilities throughout the appointment.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $92,500. Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in nursing; or an earned doctorate in public health or a closely related field PLUS a graduate degree in nursing at the master's or doctoral level, by the date of appointment.
• Evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence in undergraduate nursing education.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity, i.e., record of peer-reviewed publication, scholarly presentation, grant activity, or other externally reviewed scholarship appropriate to career stage.
• Evidence of, or strong potential for, a productive and sustainable program of scholarship appropriate to rank
• Current, active, unencumbered registered nurse licensure in Maryland, or eligibility to practice in Maryland through Maryland licensure or a multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact privilege by the date of appointment.
• A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered nurse and professional expertise appropriate to anticipated teaching responsibilities.
• Ability to contribute to curriculum development, student assessment, program evaluation, and accreditation in a developing prelicensure BSN program.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring and to supporting the success of students from varied backgrounds and experiences.
• Ability and willingness to contribute to Loyola's Jesuit, Catholic educational mission and its commitment to educating the whole person for learning, leadership, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful teaching experience in a prelicensure baccalaureate nursing program.
• Academic, clinical, or scholarly expertise in one or more areas that complement the existing faculty and curriculum, such as community and population health; leadership and management; health policy and health care systems; pediatrics; adult and older adult health; maternal-child health; psychiatric-mental health nursing; evidence-based practice and nursing research; health assessment; or advanced nursing practice.
• Advanced practice nursing preparation and current national certification as a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, or certified registered nurse anesthetist. Advanced practice preparation is preferred but not required.
• Additional graduate preparation in public health, such as an MPH, MSPH, DrPH, or PhD in Public Health. Public health preparation is preferred but not required.
• Experience developing reciprocal partnerships with health systems, community organizations, public health agencies, or other academic-practice partners.
• Experience with the AACN Essentials, competency-based education, systematic program evaluation, CCNE accreditation, and/or state board of nursing requirements.
• Experience with curriculum leadership, course development, program assessment, simulation, clinical technology, learning-management systems, or other instructional technologies.
• Professional certification relevant to the appointment, such as Certified Nurse Educator, Certified in Public Health, or another specialty certification.

Candidates who advance will be asked to also submit 1) names and contact information for three professional letters of reference, 2) a statement of teaching that incorporates a clear understanding of Loyola's Jesuit mission and 3) official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and clinical licenses. Successful candidates for any staff, faculty, or administrative position at Loyola University Maryland will be subject to a pre-employment background check.

Final compensation offers are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, job-related experience, internal equity, and alignment with organizational budget.
