Lead Vet Tech & Clinic Team Leader

$28 per hour

Lead Veterinary Technician Title: Lead Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician Reports to: Veterinary Center Manager Hours: Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:00 pm (Non‑exempt, full‑time 40 hours/week) Hourly: $28 The NHSPCA is excited to announce the open position for a Lead Certified Veterinary Technician as part of our growing team. This position fills a crucial gap in current operations, providing guidance to Vet Center volunteers and staff and facilitating patient flow throughout the workday. Founded in 1872, the NHSPCA is one of the first animal welfare organizations established in the USA. By joining the NHSPCA, your talents, experience, and education will make a difference in the lives of companion animals. Responsibilities Identify shelter animals needing medical services and schedule them for their needed services in a timely manner to reduce length of stay. Train and assign daily responsibilities to volunteers, veterinary assistants, and other veterinary technicians. Provide suggestions to increase safety, efficiency, and impact. Ensure all veterinary machines are regularly serviced. Monitor inventory in conjunction with the Clinic Manager. Coordinate and cooperate as the lead on daily clinic flow and act as a liaison between the clinic staff, veterinarian, manager, and director of animal services. Administer daily treatments and feeding as needed under veterinarian supervision. Perform necessary diagnostic testing (CBC, blood chemistry, X‑rays, urine testing, leukemia, FIV/FeLV, parvovirus, heartworm, fecal, intravenous catheters, intravenous fluid administration, intubation) and monitor animal treatment progress. Prepare animals for surgery and assist in anesthesia induction, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining anesthesia machine operation. In an emergency, administer life‑saving medication under doctor’s supervision. Perform or assist in euthanasia of animals in the clinic when necessary. Demonstrate appropriate use of PPE in quarantine/isolation spaces and educate other staff on best practices. Utilize high‑quality, high‑volume techniques on spay/neuter days. Fill prescriptions, prepare medications and monitoring charts, coordinate medication administration, and accurately record all doses. Report irregularities in controlled drug records to the supervising doctor promptly. Assist in maintaining inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies and collaborate on medication logs and overall inventory management. Ensure monitoring and support equipment (anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes, breathing apparatus) are in good working condition. Clean and maintain facility daily, including sterilizing instruments, refilling chemical solutions, and cleaning exam and surgery rooms. Participate in events that further the agency’s mission, which may include being in pictures and videos. Work alongside and mentor volunteers in the clinic. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Excellent demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build bridges between departments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Clear, professional communication with colleagues and clients, including pet owners. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and business correspondence. Remain calm under pressure and perform consistently. Proactive follow‑through and task completion. Willingness to learn new technologies and use different tools. Ability to work in a high‑stress, rapidly changing environment. Willingness to be delegated to and work independently. Contribute to decision making and pathway management. Comfortable with doctor and management decisions regarding euthanasia. Dependable with attendance and timeliness. Must be present for workdays in the Vet Center at the NHSPCA. Ability to foster a positive work environment and have fun. Education and Experience Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. Current certification in New Hampshire. Experience in high‑volume spay and neuter techniques. Equivalent work experience as a Veterinary Technician considered. Computer Skills ClinicHQ or other shelter/practice management software. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Materials and Equipment Used Laboratory equipment (CBC, chemistry machines). Digital X‑ray (full body and intra‑oral). Dental machines (polishing and scaling). Anesthesia machines. Microscope. Autoclave. IV pumps. Ultrasonic surgical instrument sterilizer. Heat support systems. Benefits Paid Time Off – Full‑time employees receive 16 paid days off in the first year; part‑time accumulate proportionally after 90 days. Holidays – Nine paid holidays and one float day year‑long for full‑time employees. Veterinary Center Manager Title: Veterinary Center Manager Reports to: VP of Animal & Veterinary Services Hours: Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:00 pm (Non‑exempt, full‑time 40 hours/week) Starting Compensation: $25 per hour The NHSPCA is excited to announce the open position for a Veterinary Center Manager as part of our growing team. The manager oversees daily operations of a high‑volume, mission‑driven veterinary clinic that serves both shelter animals and the public, including spay/neuter services for cats, dogs, and rabbits, community wellness care, euthanasia services, and other procedures when capacity allows. Main Objectives Develop, plan, and implement a calendar of community medical services via ClinicHQ. Work independently and within a team, anticipating and overseeing project needs and growth. Schedule and support clinic reception staff and volunteers. Maintain a safe workplace through equipment management and staff safety training. Manage community programs, including spay/neuter clinics and community wellness. Plan and coordinate daily and long‑term operations, budgeting, staffing, and agendas. Adjust appointment types based on community medical needs. Standardize community wellness programs. Support veterinary center receptionists. Collaborate with the volunteer coordinator on volunteer onboarding. Assist with budget creation and goal projections independently when needed. Track revenues, expenses, receipts, and inventory accurately. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred; combination of training and experience can qualify. Proven ability to take projects from inception to completion while managing competing priorities. Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills. Understanding of budget control, expenses, and allocations. Self‑directed with ability to set personal schedule for maximum efficiency. Knowledge of animal welfare, veterinary, and shelter medicine is a plus. Skills Strong organizational skills; flexibility, multitasking, and work under pressure. Ability to build productive business relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and shelter software. Comfortable handling companion animals, including those with behavioral concerns. Excellent interpersonal communication and stewardship skills. Commitment to a positive, fun, team‑oriented work environment. Working Conditions Normal office and veterinary clinic environment; requires computer use for extended periods. Some lifting occasionally (up to 50 pounds). Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous/fraught animals, and high noise levels. Work schedule typically Monday‑through‑Friday; evenings and weekends may be required.
