Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Perform technical work and assist in the development and coordination of the District's environmental health, and safety programs; provide highly responsible and technical staff assistance; schedule, plan and conduct environmental health, and safety inspections of District facilities; and ensure District compliance with federal, state and county regulations.

Essential duties include conducting ergonomic evaluations, assisting in the development of safety programs, responding to complaints, researching and documenting information in the field of environmental health and safety, and advising managerial personnel on courses of action affecting District operations.

Hazardous materials core functions include scheduling and conducting environmental inspections, managing hazardous waste storage, and assisting governmental agencies in audits. Safety core functions include inspecting worksites, researching laws and regulations, and providing instruction on safety subjects.

Qualifications include an associate's degree in occupational health, safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous material, or related field, and three years of recent work experience in environmental health, safety, hazardous materials/waste principles, techniques, practices and program development.

Necessary special requirements include possession of a California driver's license, filing a Statement of Economic Interest, and ability to obtain specific certifications.
