Contract-to-Hire Opportunity - Atlanta, GA

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Substation Designer to join their growing team in Atlanta, GA. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a wide variety of electrical substation and power delivery projects for utility and industrial clients. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in electrical design, drafting, and coordination within multi-disciplinary engineering environments.

The Electrical Substation Designer will support all phases of project development including planning, site evaluations, analytical design, drawing production, specifications, proposal support, and construction documentation. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and technically challenging projects while collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical substation and power delivery projects including:
  • Electrical schematics
  • Grid plan layouts
  • Electrical power systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Protection and control systems
  • Site and facility electrical designs
• Prepare detailed design drawings and construction documentation using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related software
• Develop layouts, calculations, and detailed designs for non-routine and complex assignments
• Execute electrical design assignments using standard engineering and drafting techniques
• Produce conduit and grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics
• Analyze reports, drawings, specifications, and test data to support project design efforts
• Interpret and apply applicable design codes, standards, and client specifications
• Incorporate design revisions, markups, and redlines into project deliverables
• Review drawings and deliverables for quality assurance and compliance with project requirements
• Coordinate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, clients, and other stakeholders
• Maintain organized project documentation, revisions, plot files, and drawing records
• Support project schedules and complete assignments within budgeted hours
• Participate in project meetings and provide clear written and verbal communication throughout project execution
• Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field with a minimum of 7 years of related experience; OR
• Associate Degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience; OR
• High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 9 years of progressive electrical detailing and design experience
• Strong experience supporting electrical substation, utility, or power systems projects
• Advanced proficiency with:
  • AutoCAD
  • MicroStation
  • Microsoft Excel
• Experience utilizing both 2D and 3D design applications
• Advanced understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and design systems
• Ability to learn and adapt to new design software and technologies
• Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary coordination and project workflows
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment

Preferred Experience

• Utility or EPC project experience
• Experience with protection and control design documentation
• Knowledge of substation physical design standards and practices
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards related to electrical power systems
