Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) - Echo Tech

The Echo Tech performs diagnostic echocardiography studies to assess cardiac structure and function, working with cardiology teams to support accurate interpretation.

They typically operate in hospital or outpatient cardiology labs, ensuring high-quality imaging and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Acquire standard 2D and Doppler echocardiographic images
• Operate ultrasound equipment and adjust imaging settings
• Prepare patients, explain procedures, and monitor for safety
• Document study findings and prepare preliminary results for interpretation
• Ensure equipment maintenance, calibration, and sterilization
• Collaborate with cardiologists and other sonographers
• Manage scheduling and patient flow for imaging sessions

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree or equivalent in cardiovascular technology or an accredited sonography program.

Licensure:

State licensure is variable; certification is preferred where available.

Certifications:

• Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience or Skills:

Experience performing echocardiograms and understanding cardiac anatomy; strong patient-care and data documentation skills.

Experience

• Experience performing adult transthoracic echocardiography in clinical settings
• Experience using ultrasound equipment and reporting results

Preferred

• Experience with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) credentialed or trained
• Experience with stress or contrast echo protocols
• Familiarity with cardiology information systems

Work Environment

Clinical imaging lab in hospital or outpatient setting; fast-paced environment with exposure to various cardiac conditions.

Collaborative team of cardiologists, nurses, and technologists; documentation and image archiving are routine.
