OTP Addiction Counselor

Role Description The OTP Addiction Counselor is a full-time, on-site position based in Newark, DE, providing direct counseling and support to individuals enrolled in Opioid Treatment Programs. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting intake assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating individual and group counseling sessions. The counselor monitors patient progress, maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation, and coordinates care with medical staff and other behavioral health professionals. Additional duties include providing crisis intervention, educating patients on recovery resources and relapse prevention, and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings. The role also involves adherence to regulatory and program standards, supporting a safe and therapeutic environment, and engaging patients in person-centered, culturally responsive care. Qualifications Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling, conduct clinical assessments, and develop person-centered treatment plans. Strong skills in written and electronic documentation, including maintaining accurate records and complying with regulatory and confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA). Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic rapport, work on multidisciplinary teams, and engage diverse populations. Knowledge of opioid use disorder, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), harm reduction, and evidence-based counseling approaches (e.g., CBT, motivational interviewing). Ability to manage crises, maintain professional boundaries, and apply sound judgment in fast-paced clinical settings. Relevant certification or licensure as required by state regulations (e.g., CADC, CAC, or equivalent), or eligibility to obtain such credentials. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field preferred.
