Site Superintendent (Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences)

Springfield, NJ (field-based, with travel to project sites) · Construction · Full-time

KeRi Engineering is looking for an experienced Site Superintendent to lead our pharmaceutical and life-science projects in the field. You will own the jobsite day to day: directing the trades, holding the schedule, keeping the site safe and clean, and serving as the person our clients and project managers count on to get it built right the first time.

At its core, this is a general construction superintendent role. What sets it apart is the environment. Our pharmaceutical work, from cleanrooms and controlled environments to the clean utilities that support cGMP manufacturing, demands finishes, sequencing, and cleanliness well above typical commercial interiors. • Client Experience: Clients feel informed, respected, and confident from mobilization through turnover, and every jobsite interaction reflects the standards the company holds itself to.
• Budget: Projects are delivered efficiently. You build it right the first time, minimize rework, avoid unnecessary change orders, and flag potential cost impacts early, while they are still easy to manage.
• Schedule: Projects finish on time, driven by disciplined look-ahead planning, tight trade coordination, and early resolution of field conflicts.

What You Will Do

Planning & Scheduling

• Build and maintain the two-week look-ahead schedule, distribute it, and drive the trades to it.
• Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to align the trades, confirm manpower, review upcoming work, and resolve conflicts.
• Direct subcontractor manpower and progress against the project schedule, flagging understaffing early to keep the job moving.
• Coordinate trade sequencing to meet the requirements of classified-space and clean-build construction.

Site Management & Safety

• Run day-to-day site operations from mobilization through punch list and turnover.
• Own jobsite safety, including daily inspections.
• Enforce OSHA, site-specific, and facility safety requirements for every subcontractor, and hold each trade accountable for the safe conduct of its crew.
• Maintain site cleanliness and protection of installed work appropriate to each phase of a classified-space build, including progressive-cleaning practices.
• Schedule and coordinate township and other required inspections, making sure the work is ready and inspections pass without delay.

Quality & Cost Control

• Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and submittals, and perform constructability and quality reviews to catch issues early.
• Verify subcontractor work against contract scope, document changed conditions and potential cost impacts, and raise them to the Project Manager before they become change orders.
• Coordinate and document field changes with the Project Manager and KeRi's design team.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain the submittal log, tracking status and dates and keeping the field aligned with approved submittals.
• Document subcontractor performance issues, such as inadequate staffing or falling behind schedule, and escalate them promptly to the Project Manager.

Client & Closeout

• Lead weekly client meetings covering progress, schedule status, and open items.
• Work directly and professionally with clients, facility and quality staff, engineers, and inspectors, including inside active, operating pharmaceutical facilities.
• Run the punch list process and coordinate project closeout and turnover, including support for commissioning activities.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of construction field experience, with a strong record as a superintendent or field leader on commercial interior fit-out or renovation projects.
• Proven ability to run multiple trades and subcontractors and hold them accountable for schedule, quality, and safety.
• Strong knowledge of MEP systems and how they coordinate in both interior and exterior buildouts.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
• Experience scheduling and passing municipal, township, and third-party inspections.
• OSHA 30 certification, or the ability to obtain it promptly.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, and comfort leading client meetings and working with clients on site.
• Proficiency with look-ahead schedules, submittal logs, and daily reports.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites, including extended assignments away from home.

Preferred

• Experience building cleanrooms or controlled environments (ISO 7 / ISO 8), or working inside pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or other cGMP-regulated facilities.
• Familiarity with modular cleanroom wall and ceiling systems and clean-build practices.
• Exposure to clean utilities such as high-purity water, pure steam, and process gases.
• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.

Cleanroom experience is a plus, not a dealbreaker. A strong superintendent who values quality and cleanliness will be trained on classified-space requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Presence and mobility on active construction sites for extended periods.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling to inspect work.
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to gown and work within cleanroom and controlled-environment protocols.
• Adherence to all site-specific safety and PPE requirements.
