Growing together.The Licensed Practical Nurse assists in the care of patients.Primary Responsibilities:Patient Care Functions Interviews patients regarding medical concernsRecords vital signs and other health-related issues on patients' chartsObtains patient medical historiesReviews physician orders and lab requests and follows up as neededCommunicates test results to patients as directedCalls in prescriptions/order refills as approved and directedAssists in patient education with related educational tools, periodicals, flyers, and handoutsAssists with Department of Transportation, FMLA, and Medical Disability application formsTriage patient telephone callsAdministrative Functions Inputs data into the computer to maintain patient recordsRoutes necessary paperwork associated with patient referralsContacts other medical practices as needed to make referralsInventories and orders medical supplies and materialsPre-certifies exams and collects pre-certifications from managed careFaxes reportsPerforms daily refrigerator temperature checks and maintains accurate logsOther Functions Attends meetings and participates on committees as requestedReviews current literature and attends training sessions and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the fieldPerforms other related duties and responsibilities as directedYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one year of related experience and/or trainingGraduation from an accredited LPN program and a current unencumbered state license is required (or must have applied for transfer of license from another state)BLS certificationPALS certificationACLS certificationKnowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatmentKnowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room proceduresKnowledge of medications and their effects on patientsKnowledge of patient education principlesKnowledge of and ability to apply appropriate delegationKnowledge of general insurance proceduresKnowledge of specific immunization guidelines for all agesProficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programsProven skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment proceduresProven skill in taking vital signsDemonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsDemonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondenceDemonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations; must be able to relate to and work with ill, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile peopleDemonstrated ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situationsDemonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsDemonstrated ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsDemonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization existsDemonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formDemonstrated ability to follow directionDemonstrated ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisionsDemonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyPreferred Qualification:Associate's degreePhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those an individual must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
