Dental Hygienist Responsibilities

The Dental Hygienist will provide comprehensive preventive dental hygiene services while educating patients and supporting their overall oral health. Responsibilities include:

• Welcome and prepare patients for dental hygiene appointments

• Perform comprehensive oral health screenings and dental hygiene assessments

• Evaluate patients for signs of periodontal disease, gingivitis, and other oral health conditions

• Provide professional dental cleanings and appropriate preventive hygiene procedures

• Take and review dental X-rays as permitted by state regulations and practice protocols

• Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and overall oral hygiene practices

• Provide personalized recommendations for maintaining optimal oral health

• Document patient treatment, findings, and recommendations accurately in the dental practice management system

• Follow OSHA, CDC, and office infection control and sterilization protocols

• Properly sterilize and maintain dental hygiene instruments and equipment

• Collaborate with dentists and the dental team to provide comprehensive patient care

• Maintain a professional, compassionate, and patient-centered approach throughout each appointment

Dental Hygienist Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program

• Current and valid Alaska Dental Hygiene License

• Current CPR/BLS certification, as required

• Strong knowledge of dental hygiene procedures and infection control standards

• Familiarity with dental practice management software

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient care

• Compassionate chairside manner and ability to build trust with patients

• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative dental team
