Clinical Services Manager I-Nursing Supervisor-San Mateo Medical Center (Open & Promotional)

Overview San Mateo Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Services Manager I – Nursing Supervisor to manage the operations of a nursing unit and float pool. The role includes 24/7 oversight of the nursing team, medical services assistants float pool, and staffing coordinator. Responsibilities involve training, coaching, counseling, and continuous improvement activities across multiple hospital units including medical/surgical, ICU, OR, PACU, long-term care, psychiatric, and emergency departments. Responsibilities Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures within the nursing area. Select, supervise, train, and evaluate clinical, professional, technical, and clerical subordinates. Represent the department in committees and workgroups. Ensure continuous quality improvement and regulatory readiness of assigned units. Organize, supervise, and monitor nursing care provision. Prepare cost estimates, monitor expenditures, and maintain budget approvals. Assist in negotiating and evaluating contracts with vendors and consultants. Maintain working relationships with public and private organizations. Provide staff assistance and support to higher‑level management. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum two years as charge nurse or one year in nursing management/supervisory role in an accredited acute care hospital. Experience in ICU/ED and recent nursing practice of at least one year. Ability to manage 24/7 operations. Familiarity with conflict mediation among staff, patients, and families. Collaboration skills with physicians and administrative staff. Strong organizational skills. Licensure / Certification Valid California Registered Nurse (R.N.) license. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificates from the American Heart Association. Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Typical qualification: three years of professional nursing experience in an accredited hospital or clinic, with at least one year of supervisory responsibility. Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act. Principles and practices of nursing, clinical systems, safety, and infection control. Community health care trends and practices. Program management planning, implementation, and evaluation. Budget preparation and monitoring principles. Personnel training, supervision, and evaluation principles. State and regulatory requirements for units or programs. Treatment and intervention practices for acute psychiatric populations (if applicable). Third‑party reimbursement systems and operating room financial management (if applicable). Skills / Abilities Organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services to ensure quality patient care. Collaborate with county departments and external partners. Analyze service delivery problems, develop recommendations, and implement solutions. Develop, evaluate, and maintain accurate documentation and reports. Communicate effectively with administrative, medical, and citizen groups. Train staff and coordinate contractor and volunteer activities. Provide unit management support during evening, off‑hour, and weekend shifts (if applicable). Operate surgical scheduling systems (if applicable).
