Job Description
This role supports a hospital facilities team by maintaining, cleaning, and repairing drain and sewer systems to ensure a safe, sanitary, and fully operational healthcare environment. The Sewer and Drain Technician uses specialized equipment to diagnose and resolve drainage issues, performs preventative maintenance, and assists with basic plumbing repairs while following strict safety and infection control protocols.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, clean, and maintain hospital drain and sewer lines to keep systems operating safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose and resolve clogs, backups, slow-drain issues, and other flow problems in drain and sewer systems.
- Operate drain cleaning equipment such as drain snakes, augers, cutting tools, pumps, and hydro jetting tools.
- Perform hydro jetting to clear and maintain drain and sewer lines as needed.
- Conduct sewer camera inspections to identify blockages, damage, and other issues within piping systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to reduce future issues and extend equipment life.
- Assist with basic plumbing repairs, including leaks, pipes, fittings, fixtures, and drain system components.
- Unclog drains and troubleshoot drain and sewer issues in various hospital areas.
- Respond promptly to service calls in patient care areas, kitchens, restrooms, and other hospital locations.
- Use cameras and diagnostic tools to locate and assess clogs, backups, and flow issues.
- Perform leak detection and address identified issues in a timely manner.
- Document work orders, inspections, and maintenance activities accurately and completely.
- Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols while performing work.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and comply with OSHA and other safety standards.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and stakeholders regarding issues, findings, and repairs.
- Manage time effectively to complete assigned tasks and respond to service calls efficiently.
- Work independently in the field, making sound decisions and solving problems with minimal supervision.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
- Experience with drain cleaning equipment, including snakes, augers, jetters, and cutting tools.
- Proficiency with hydro jetting equipment for drain and sewer cleaning.
- Experience performing sewer camera inspections to diagnose line conditions.
- Ability to diagnose clogs, backups, flow issues, and other drain and sewer problems.
- Basic plumbing knowledge, including pipes, fittings, and drain system components.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
- Skill in unclogging drains and troubleshooting drain and sewer issues.
- Ability to use cameras, pumps, and related equipment safely and effectively.
- Problem-solving and diagnostic skills for identifying root causes of plumbing issues.
- Strong customer service and communication skills when interacting with hospital staff.
- Ability to work independently in the field and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Effective time management and strong reliability in completing assigned work.
- Safety awareness and compliance with PPE requirements and OSHA standards.
- Experience with leak detection and addressing identified issues.
- Experience working in healthcare, commercial, or facilities environments.
- Hydro jetting experience in institutional or commercial settings.
- Sewer camera inspection experience for detailed line assessments.
- Plumbing apprentice status, trade certification, or plumbing license.
- Familiarity with PVC pipe systems and related fittings.
- Comfort working in wet environments and confined spaces.
- Ability to adapt to different hospital areas, including patient care spaces, kitchens, and restrooms.

Work Environment
This position is based in a hospital and healthcare setting, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will move throughout the facility, including patient care areas, kitchens, restrooms, and mechanical spaces, to respond to service calls and perform maintenance. The role may require working in confined spaces, wet environments, and around mechanical and plumbing equipment. You will regularly use tools such as drain snakes, augers, hydro jetting equipment, sewer cameras, pumps, cutting tools, and other plumbing-related devices. Personal protective equipment and adherence to hospital safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols are essential parts of the daily work environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Fort Worth, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.
