Senior Director of Development, Education and Alumni Relations

DescriptionMount Sinai Health System seeks an exceptional development and alumni relations professional to raise philanthropic support for all of our education programs and to increase meaningful engagement with all of our alumni communities.As Mount Sinai prepares to enter into a new fundraising campaign, our education programs will be a top strategic priority. These include the various degrees and training programs of the Icahn School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Phillips School of Nursing, the Department of Graduate Medical Education, the Department of Graduate Education, and other possible future programs.The successful candidate will identify and maintain a portfolio of top prospects, while leading a system-wide fundraising effort that capitalizes on current and emerging opportunities. He/she will be responsible for increasing parent and alumni philanthropy, and will work closely with the Dean’s Office and alumni-related staff on all Alumni Relations programs and events, including our mentorship platform, class reunions, volunteer opportunities, alumni awards, and more.The Senior Director of Development, Education and Alumni Relations will report monthly to the Dean’s Monthly Business Review for Education, report quarterly to the Education Sub-Committee of the Mount Sinai Boards of Trustees, and partner with the Mount Sinai Alumni President, the Alumni Board of Governors, and its related subcommittees. He/she will need to build strong partnerships with all our academic leaders as well as Development Officers who staff specific Departments in order to provide guidance on Department-specific alumni engagement activities. The position has a primary reporting relationship to the Senior Executive Director. In addition, the role supports key strategic priorities of the Dean through a collaborative dotted-line relationship to the Dean's Chief of Staff, and manages a staff of 3, including the Director of Alumni Relations. The goal is to grow the team to meet developing opportunities throughout the next campaign.This role operates within a hybrid work model, with on-site expectations established in alignment with departmental priorities and evolving organizational guidelines. Employees must reside within a commutable distance of the 42nd Street Midtown NYC office. The role may also require occasional evening or weekend hours.Cover Letter RequiredResponsibilities(in order of importance and/or frequency)Manage a pool of rated prospects; create a personal and team strategic plan; and devise cultivation, solicitation, and closure strategies for each prospect.Facilitate the solicitation of major gifts and principal gifts for all our degree-granting Schools and programs, working in tandem with key School and Health System leadership. Work with the Dean’s Chief of Staff on all aspects of alumni relations. Enhance development efforts for major gifts, parents’ gifts, alumni gifts, annual fund, and class gifts.Interact with internal contacts such as deans, directors, student affairs, admissions, financial aid office, legal, enrollment services, marketing, finance, and faculty. Work collaboratively and creatively with other development officers to enhance the potential interest of donors. Attend and present at monthly meetings of the Dean’s Monthly Business Review for Education and quarterly meetings of the Education Sub-Committee of the Mount Sinai Board. Attend and present at Alumni Board of Governors meetings and its related subcommittees. Lead and guide efforts to build greater links with alumni, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders. Evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles and recommend the most suitable for a particular donor. In partnership with the proposal writing team, develop, write, and present proposals appropriate to donor's interest and potential. Partner with Development Events team to oversee the execution of events and programs in support of education and alumni development activities. Build and foster effective development partnerships to advance fundraising initiatives. Establish and maintain robust stewardship programs, in consultation with the Executive Director of Stewardship, focusing on Trustees, alumni and parents in particular, and including all donors. Meet activity and revenue goals and generally promote positive donor relations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Deputy Chief Development Officer and Chief Development Officer.QualificationsBachelor's degree, Advanced degree preferredMinimum Related ExperienceIdeal candidates will have 10 years of direct fundraising experience in sophisticated and complex organizations or other related professional experience. The candidate will have demonstrated success in raising six and seven figure gifts, and have in depth knowledge of all aspects of a comprehensive development operation. Demonstrated knowledge of gift planning vehicles and development practices is preferred. The ideal candidate will show evidence of setting and achieving goals and will have a successful track record of working with internal and external constituents, as well as volunteer and committee management.Preferred experience in an academic medical setting and /or complex nonprofit fundraising environment and experience with capital campaigns, volunteer management, gift planning, and alumni relations.Minimum Computer SkillsMicrosoft Office. The salary range for the role is $153723 - $230584 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
