About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse - Surg/Ortho to provide high-quality nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures, orthopedic conditions, injuries, and other acute care needs. The RN will work closely with physicians, surgeons, therapists, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support safe recovery, manage pain, monitor patient conditions, and promote positive clinical outcomes.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced nurse who is confident in surgical and orthopedic patient care and is comfortable working either day or night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to surgical and orthopedic patients throughout the patient stay
• Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments and document changes in condition
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Monitor vital signs, neurological status, pain levels, mobility, and overall patient condition
• Administer medications, IV therapies, injections, and treatments according to orders and established protocols
• Monitor patients before and after surgical procedures and identify potential complications
• Provide care for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, fractures, joint replacements, and other musculoskeletal procedures
• Assess surgical sites, wounds, drains, dressings, and incisions for signs of infection or complications
• Manage post-operative pain and collaborate with providers regarding pain control needs
• Assist patients with mobility, positioning, transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living
• Follow fall prevention and patient safety protocols, particularly for patients with mobility limitations
• Monitor intake and output and maintain accurate clinical records
• Provide appropriate wound care and dressing changes
• Educate patients and families regarding medications, mobility precautions, wound care, recovery, and discharge instructions
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist with post-procedure recovery
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to physicians and other members of the care team
• Participate in emergency response and rapid intervention when clinically indicated
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
• Follow infection prevention, medication safety, and hospital policies
• Collaborate with physical therapy, occupational therapy, case management, and other healthcare professionals
• Support discharge planning and continuity of care
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable healthcare regulations and standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible to practice in Kentucky
• Minimum 2 years of recent Surg/Ortho or comparable acute care nursing experience
• Strong knowledge of post-operative and orthopedic patient care
• Experience with medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, and patient monitoring
• Ability to identify and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
• Strong communication, organization, and clinical decision-making skills
• Ability to work effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Comfortable working 12-hour shifts on either day or night schedule
• Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements
