Swim Team Assistant Coach
YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta
We are looking for a Swim Team Assistant Coach to support the YMCA’s competitive and recreational swimming programs. The role reports to the Head Coach and involves instruction, team development, safety, and community outreach. Nature and Scope The assistant coach will implement instruction for swimmers throughout the season and during clinics, support the YMCA vision to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Minimum Requirements Minimum age of 16 Background in competitive swimming either as a coach or swimmer Ability to effectively communicate 1 year of coaching experience with various ages helpful Excellent teaching skills with expert knowledge of training and stroke development Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities and a professional image Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community YMCA Leader certification preferred (within 90 days) YMCA Swim Instructor Certification and/or YMCA Lifeguard Certification Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record Within 30 days of hire, complete Child Abuse Prevention, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training Responsibilities Teach all groups by facilitating a training and/or practice plan as developed by the Head Coach Help evaluate swim team members’ individual goals; provide individual and team feedback for improvement and recognition Support volunteer recruitment, parent and swimmer communication, and provide input on team roster and meet lineups Support community involvement, fundraising efforts and events Maintain records of achievements, progress reports, skill development Attend meetings as scheduled Represent the YMCA at meets, community events, and meetings Responsible for the safety of all participants at all times Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures; report incidents and events in a complete and timely manner Promote the team philosophy and foster a positive and friendly practice environment for athletes in a way consistent with the YMCA Mission Other duties as assigned by supervisor Leadership Competencies Collaboration Communication & Influence Developing Self & Others Engaging Community Work Requirements & Physical Demands Regular exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme heat, and loud noise. Must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds, sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed.
