TEST CABINET ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN Location: Westfield, IN (Indianapolis Metro Area) Department: Production / Assembly Reports to: Project Engineer / Project Manager Employment Type: Full-Time Experience Level: Mid-to-Senior (5–10 years) Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Job Summary Ball Systems is hiring an experienced Test Cabinet Assembly Technician to build advanced custom test equipment for military/aerospace (Mil‑Aero), automotive, and energy industries. The role requires a hybrid skill set—electromechanical assembly and AC/DC wiring fundamentals combined with precision mechanical fabrication and modification capabilities. You will work directly with a Project Engineer or Project Manager to solve problems, meet tight schedules, and drive complex 19" rack‑mount test cabinet builds to completion. Primary Responsibilities Perform electromechanical assembly of advanced custom test equipment for Mil‑Aero, automotive, and energy market customers. Execute high‑precision tester modifications, including custom mechanical fitting of components and parts. Read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, customer specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), project travelers, and time reports. Mount and integrate electromechanical components and subsystems. Assemble and wire control panels with both AC and DC circuits. Perform full test cabinet mechanical assembly, wiring, and cabling for 19" rack‑mount equipment. Test functional performance of completed electromechanical devices. Build custom cable assemblies using a wide range of OEM contact crimp tooling. Assemble OEM and custom interconnect systems, including Virginia Panel Corp (VPC) and MAC Panel hardware. Precisely fabricate and modify parts using manual mill, saws, drill presses, and grinders. Perform PCB hand soldering as needed (preferred but not required). Support manual assembly during small‑scale production of electronic devices used in avionic, military, and medical applications. Use standard tools for electronic assembly, mechanical assembly, and soldering. Review work activity and progress with the Operations Director. Inspect peer wiring installations and incoming custom mechanical parts. Maintain quality standards and adhere to documented quality processes throughout production. Required Qualifications Hands‑on experience in commercial electromechanical assembly, machine assembly, or industrial wiring; PC/Windows proficiency required. Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology (MET), electronics engineering technology (EET), technical trades, or equivalent technical degree. Working knowledge of AC and DC wiring practices. Comfortable operating manual mills, drill presses, saws, and grinders. Capable of precision fitting and modification of mechanical components. Ability to read schematics, mechanical drawings, and customer specifications. Strong team orientation and collaborative working style. Preferred Qualifications IPC certifications (IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, J‑STD‑001) for soldering and wire harness workmanship. Direct experience with Virginia Panel Corp (VPC) or MAC Panel interconnect systems. Experience building 19" rack‑mount test cabinets or industrial control panels. PCB hand soldering experience. Background in Mil‑Aero, defense, automotive test, or energy sector equipment builds. Familiarity with ESD‑safe handling and work practices. Prior machine shop or fabrication experience. Experience working with project travelers in a custom or low‑volume/high‑mix environment. Skills and Attributes The right candidate is highly motivated, precise, and craftsmanship‑driven.
