Accountant - Financial ServicesThis position performs accounting and payroll duties in support of college operations.Responsibilities include:Payroll Processing:Collaborates with Human Resources (HR) and other departments to ensure accurate and timely payroll processingExecutes the payroll process with USG SSC - Centralized Payroll Processing and reconciles final payroll data and reportsMaintains confidentiality of payroll dataAudits the accuracy of all payroll data for each bi-weekly, monthly, and off-cycle payrollProvides payroll registers to Human Resources Generalist(s) and the Faculty Affairs Administrator for second level audit of compensation and deductions including taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other deductionsCalculates and monitors compensation, leave, and work time for corrections, calculations and adjustments for each payroll to include:Timekeeping and attendance records management - work hours and absencesSupplemental and grant paymentsAnnual leave (vacation) payouts for employee termination/transferRetroactive deduction adjustments for benefits, etc./schedule of retro paymentsRetirement for ERS-retiree employees monthlyVoluntary payroll deductionsPromissory notes for compensation/wage overpaymentsMaintains accurate payroll records and ensures payroll data is entered timely and accurately into the payroll systemProvides individual employee wage verifications as requestedAssists employees and managers with payroll related concerns/issuesProvide training and guidance to employees on payroll-related mattersServes as liaison to USG SSC to communicate payroll matters to the GHC HR teamAssists Accounting Team with Payroll related monthly and yearly reconciliationsAccounting:Assists with general ledger maintenancePrepares monthly and yearly journal enters, cash entries, and inter-fund transfersPerforms financial duties related to Dual Appointments including post to GL, create invoice(s), and submit AP request(s)Performs payroll tax maintenance and tax reconciliationsReconciles assigned accounts and generates periodic reportsAssists in monthly reconciliation of the operating accountPrepares the submission of salary and travel files to the State Department of Audits and AccountsPrepares the submission of payment and obligation files to the State Department of Audits and AccountsRecommends procedures for increased efficiency and accuracyHelps prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external useMaintains the college unclaimed property account and ensures compliance with state unclaimed property requirementsCompiles financial information and assists in yearly closeout in preparation of the annual financial reportMaintains the college's asset management systemHelps perform inventory checksPerforms related dutiesRequired Qualifications include:Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational fieldExperience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experiencePossession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operatedProposed Salary: $52,118 - $55,843 annuallyRequired Documents to Attach:Cover letterResumeTranscriptsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities include:Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principlesKnowledge of college and university system policies and proceduresKnowledge of computers and job-related software programsKnowledge of Board of Regents Policy and ProceduresSkill to make timely decisionsSkill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with peersSkill in decision making and problem solvingSkill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the publicSkill in oral and written communicationAbility to administer established policies and proceduresApplication Deadline: Applications will be reviewed as received.The University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
