Role Overview

The Inspection Technician performs installation, service, testing, inspection, and preventive maintenance of fire alarm and related fire and life safety systems throughout an assigned territory. The position completes work safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved plans, manufacturer requirements, applicable NFPA standards, adopted codes, company procedures, and the technician's training and authorization. The Inspection Technician communicates clearly with customers and internal teams, documents all work, identifies deficiencies, and supports timely completion and billing of each assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety policies, site-specific requirements, applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and industry standards; perform only work for which the technician is trained, qualified, licensed, and authorized.
• Safely install, service, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and maintain fire alarm and related fire and life safety systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures.
• Read and interpret plans, riser diagrams, point lists, sequences of operation, submittals, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to accurately perform assigned installation, service, and inspection work.
• Install and terminate fire alarm devices, equipment, wiring, pathways, interfaces, and related low-voltage components while maintaining proper device locations, circuit identification, labeling, mounting, and workmanship.
• Program, configure, test, and commission supported fire alarm systems within the technician’s demonstrated competency and company authorization.
• Perform system startup, pretesting, functional testing, acceptance-test support, and customer training as assigned, ensuring systems operate in accordance with design requirements and applicable standards.
• Respond to scheduled and emergency service calls; diagnose and resolve system troubles, supervisory conditions, false alarms, communication failures, ground faults, device failures, and other reported system conditions.
• Repair or replace defective components using compatible, approved parts and accepted industry practices, and verify completed repairs through appropriate functional testing before returning systems to normal operation.
• Inspect and test fire alarm systems and, when properly qualified and assigned, fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, adopted codes, contract requirements, and company procedures.
• Coordinate system testing by placing accounts on test and communicating with monitoring centers, customer representatives, and responding authorities as required; verify all devices, circuits, notification appliances, releasing functions, and system interfaces are restored to proper operating condition.
• Accurately identify, document, and communicate system deficiencies, impairments, inaccessible devices, incomplete work, and items not tested, including required parts, access needs, quantities, locations, and recommended corrective action.
• Identify scope conflicts, concealed conditions, material shortages, code concerns, potential change-order work, and life-safety risks, and promptly escalate issues beyond the technician’s authorized scope or competency.
• Maintain safe, orderly, and professional job sites; protect customers, occupants, property, installed equipment, and confidential information, including keys, access credentials, plans, codes, and system data.
• Complete accurate and timely service tickets, inspection reports, installation reports, time entries, material usage, test records, customer signatures, and required closeout documentation, including detailed notes regarding work performed, findings, system status, and follow-up requirements.
• Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, ladders, lifts, PPE, test equipment, inventory, and truck stock in safe, clean, secure, and serviceable condition; communicate professionally with customers and internal teams regarding arrival, access, work status, delays, completion, and follow-up needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to satisfy company background-screening and drug-testing requirements.
• Previous fire alarm, fire protection, electrical, security, or low-voltage field experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic electricity, wiring methods, testing equipment, and electronic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical documents, codes, and manufacturer instructions.
• Ability to use mobile applications and common business software, including email and electronic work-order systems.
• Strong customer-service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• NICET, manufacturer, fire extinguisher, suppression, or other applicable industry certifications preferred and may be required for specific assignments.
• Ability and willingness to complete required technical, safety, and certification training.

Work Requirements

• Field-based role requires regular travel to customer sites throughout the assigned territory.
• Ability to walk long distances, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, bend, kneel, reach, and work in difficult-access areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to lift, carry, and position tools, ladders, equipment, and materials necessary for assigned work, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Exposure to construction areas, mechanical and electrical rooms, varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical field environments.
• May require overtime, on-call duty, evening, weekend, inter-island, and out-of-town work based on customer and operational needs.
