Overview

The primary role of a blood draw specialist is to support in executing assigned tasks, resolving issues, training, and offering suggestions to enhance work processes.

Responsibilities

Proficient in drawing blood, labeling samples, processing specimens, documenting maintenance activities and decontamination, updating patient records, etc. Ensures correct collection and storage of samples as per protocols. Clearly explains the procedure of venipuncture or other specimen collection in a polite manner. Demonstrates proficiency with straight needles and butterfly needles. Familiar with all physician orders. Matches requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens per test order. Verifies requisitions against scripts. Prepares specimens for shipment. Stores samples according to temperature requirements, labels accurately, and follows transport procedures to maintain specimen integrity. Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental trainings. Handles phone inquiries and communicates lab results.

Requirements

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where required. At least 6 months’ experience in venipuncture in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED at least 1 year of related experience
