PLANT MECHANIC I or II (DOE/DOQ)

The Town of Culpeper’s Environmental Services Department is seeking qualified applicants for a Plant Mechanic. Primary functions include : Maintain and repair specialized machinery and equipment in water or wastewater treatment plants and related facilities. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, motor control systems, and motor starters; use appropriate electrical equipment to diagnose issues with VFDs, motors, and related equipment. Inspect, repair, and overhaul electromechanical and solid-state electrical equipment using electrical test equipment, meters, and powered and non-powered tools. Repair and replace electrical wiring, controls, lighting systems, and fuses; install electrical apparatus, fixtures, alarm equipment, and other system components. Perform circuit breaker repair and maintenance; install safety and distribution components, including switches, emergency shutoffs, resistors, circuit breaker panels, and lockout/tagout stations. Repair pump motors and related equipment; use hand, bench, and machine tools to maintain and repair equipment. Operate heavy equipment in the performance of assigned tasks and perform related duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications : Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical and mechanical trades. General knowledge of occupational hazards associated with maintenance operations and the ability to take and enforce appropriate safety precautions. Ability to work from sketches, blueprints, wiring schematics, and equipment manuals, and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Skill in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machines, and equipment. Education & Experience :Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in water and/or wastewater treatment plant maintenance work.
