Quality Technician - Food Manufacturing Environment

From performing critical inspections to supporting continuous improvement initiatives, you’ll play a hands‑on role in making sure every product reflects our commitment to excellence. You’ll collaborate closely with production and sanitation teams, using your attention to detail and integrity to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and Winland’s high expectations. Position Details Title: Quality Technician – Food Manufacturing Environment Employee Type: Full time Location: AZ Tolleson (495 S 99th Ave, Tolleson, AZ) Schedule: 6:00am – 6:30pm, 2-2-3 schedule Salary: $23.90 per hour (based on experience and other qualifications) Responsibilities Safe Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, environmental swabbing, product inspections; verify compliance with established standards; perform preventive maintenance on Quality equipment. Product Handling, Quality Control & Inventory Management: Conduct and oversee sensory testing, label verification, analytical testing; understand and follow plant policies for holding materials; assist with inventory control using FIFO practices; handle customer sample requests and microbiological testing for shipping; communicate quality results to other teams. Food Safety & Sanitation Compliance: Lead facility inspections; assist with quality checks and audits; follow GMP, HACCP, SQF, FSMA, and company policies; maintain cleanliness and sanitation; participate in internal audits; assist in leading internal audits. Team Collaboration, Leadership & Training: Resolve quality issues with cross‑functional teams; investigate customer complaints; provide backup coverage; share knowledge; support training; assist with SOP development; facilitate cross‑departmental collaboration. Documentation, Communication & Continuous Improvement: Manage specialized quality programs and documentation; prepare accurate written documentation; record inventory transactions, shipments, and quality results in SAP; support plant trials, process improvements, cost savings projects; participate in 5S efforts; assist in reviewing quality paperwork and document control programs; act as 5S champion. Knowledge, Training and Experience Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Food Science preferred. Experience: Minimum 1 year in manufacturing or food production; 18+ years of age. Technical skills: Operate, troubleshoot, advise on minor adjustments to formulas or processes; mechanical aptitude; proficiency in SAP, hand scanners, basic math; advanced proficiency in MII and WE systems. Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Safety & Compliance Knowledge of GMPs, SQF, HACCP, FSMA and other food safety regulations. Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., push heavy loads, stand/walk up to 90% of shift, climb as needed; near and far visual acuity, some color perception, full range of hand/arm movement. Teamwork, Communication & Leadership Effective communication with co‑workers, supervisors, and others at the worksite in English. Ability to understand and respond to oral and written communications. Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Provide training, guidance, and feedback to team members; at advanced levels lead projects, identify skill gaps, and support multiple initiatives with minimal supervision. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated accountability for work quality, attendance, and continuous improvement. Physical Demands Stand and walk for extended periods; frequent climbing, pulling, pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, stooping. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently; good hand‑eye coordination, motor skills, 20/20 corrected vision. Normal hearing and vision; required to distinguish colors for color‑coded containers. Must wear all required PPE; adhere to safety policies, including lock‑out/tag‑out, safe lifting techniques, etc. Exposure to wet, humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high areas, fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical risks, and vibrations.
