Backend Developer API Specialist

Job Summary:

The Library Support Backend Developer (Senior / Intermediate) with an API focus is responsible for providing advanced backend software engineering support for PubAg APIs and related AI-enabled data services. This role involves developing and maintaining microservices, automating metadata ingestion workflows, and modernizing scientific publication ingest systems to support AI tools and internal library workflows. Responsibilities:

• Design and develop API-driven backend services.
• Enhance PubAg API capabilities for AI consumption.
• Develop and maintain microservices architectures.
• Support automated metadata ingestion and processing.
• Design workflow enhancements and automation solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation and data models.
• Support DevSecOps, GitHub, and release management activities.
• Analyze and remediate security findings.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Proficiency in Python and Django framework.
• Experience with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Knowledge of SQL Server and MySQL databases.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
• Experience using Docker containers.
• Version control expertise with Git and GitHub.
• Understanding of microservices architecture.
• Experience with AI-assisted processing and automation.
• Strong skills in data integration and API design.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with DevSecOps practices.
• Knowledge of scientific publication ingest systems.
• Familiarity with workflow automation tools.

Special Considerations:

• Contractors working remotely must attend one in-person meeting annually at Beltsville, MD, 20705.

Scheduling:

• Work is primarily remote with a requirement for one yearly in-person meeting.
