About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer (Lead, Principal) with expertise in Snowflake, AWS, and analytics to join our Data & Analytics Services team within the IT division. This role is based in Freiburg and offers an exciting opportunity to design, develop, and implement enterprise‑grade, cloud‑native data solutions. As a senior member of our team, you will have a significant architectural influence, working closely with Data Architects to craft scalable and robust data pipelines and platforms. Your hands‑on engineering skills will be crucial in optimizing our data infrastructure, enabling advanced analytics, and supporting data governance initiatives. This position is ideal for professionals who thrive in a dynamic environment and are passionate about leveraging cloud technologies to solve complex data challenges. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background with a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of four years of professional experience as a Data Engineer focusing on cloud data architectures is essential. Fluency in German and English (C1 level) is required, both spoken and written. You should demonstrate technical proficiency in Snowflake and AWS integration, data ingestion platforms, SQL, and data modeling. Experience with programming in Python, DataOps principles, and modern data management frameworks will be highly advantageous. Certifications such as Snowflake SnowPro, AWS certifications, or Terraform expertise are considered a plus. Responsibilities Design, implement, and optimize Snowflake cloud data platforms, including account setup, warehouse configuration, and performance tuning to ensure efficient data processing and storage. Develop and manage data pipelines using ELT tools such as Fivetran, Stitch, Snowpipe, and AWS S3/Stages, ensuring reliable and scalable data ingestion from various sources. Implement data governance measures, including data quality testing with dbt, tagging and masking policies, and establishing data contracts to ensure compliance and data integrity. Enable self‑service analytics by developing analytics engineering patterns and data products that empower end‑users and data scientists. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align data architecture with business needs, providing technical guidance and innovative solutions. Maintain and enhance existing data systems, ensuring high availability, security, and performance standards are met. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, advocating for best practices in cloud data engineering and data governance.
