We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility. At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position. Job Summary Dominion's Power Generation Engineering group seeks an Associate Engineering or Engineer with a strong mechanical background and a desire to learn steam turbine and associated power station equipment, in addition to field support experience. This position will be located at Dominion's Thomas Farrel Building in Richmond, Virginia. Responsibilities The successful candidate will be trained to provide the following corporate support to Dominion’s Power Generation (non-nuclear) fleet: Steam Turbine Engineering Inspection and Assessments – Perform and/or coordinate assessments and inspections to recommend cost‑effective short‑term repair and long‑term preventive maintenance strategies, design improvements, and major equipment component replacement strategies. Steam Turbine Root Cause Analysis – Lead or support root‑cause assessments to recommend corrective actions to mitigate repetitive events, including cost‑effective maintenance and operational procedures to maintain unit capacity and efficiency. Planned and Forced Outage Support – Provide component troubleshooting, assessments, and repair recommendations for more complex maintenance and operational events; e.g., component damage/aging/wear, run versus repair decisions based on technical risk, troubleshooting operational issues. Work integrally with Stations, Outage Planning, Project Managers, and outside suppliers. Engineering General Support – Technical studies, field assessments with station personnel, work scopes and specification development, cost estimates, contract management input, construction support, vendor vetting, vendor repair shop QC surveillance, and coordination with maintenance or contractors for repair execution. Develop Multi‑Year Short and Long‑Term Maintenance Strategies – Perform annual reviews of steam turbine maintenance and operations for budget strategy and outage planning, including prioritizing repair funding on a fleet‑wide basis. Engineering and Condition‑Based Maintenance Assessments – Perform and assess steam turbine thermal and operational performance, vibration, rotor vibration, and rotor alignment reviews, using PI Process Book data, SAP and other tools. Corporate Steam Turbine Subject‑Matter Expert – Provide steam turbine engineering expertise for the station fleet, promoting best practices and proactively reviewing applicable new technologies. Qualifications and Requirements The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for entry into this job include the following: 0–2+ years of engineering experience. Basic understanding of mechanical engineering, maintenance, material sciences, non‑destructive examination (NDE) processes, and basic turbine component design. Developmental experience in a professional engineering position. Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, and theory. Effective oral and written communication skills (including technical writing). Computer skills and application of software programs. Analytical and abstract thinking skills. Planning and organizational skills. Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems. Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices. Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills. Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks. Ability to work within a team environment and independently. 2+ years of relevant engineering experience. Demonstrated skills – mechanical understanding, maintenance, material sciences, non‑destructive examination (NDE) processes, and basic turbine component design. Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals. Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position. Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives. Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management. Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g., MATLAB, Excel). Planning, organizational and project management skills. Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills. Effective oral and written communication skills (including technical writing). Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems. Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices. Equally effective working independently or in a team environment. Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks. Non‑Technical Skills and Requirements Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within engineering teams. Demonstrated success collaborating with cross‑functional technical teams and thriving in fast‑paced, complex, and rapidly evolving project and outage environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills that support clear, effective, and positive interpersonal interactions. Proven leadership capabilities, including guiding teams, driving initiatives, and influencing outcomes. Technical proficiency with computer applications, tools, and software relevant to the specific engineering discipline. Strong research, analytical, and information‑gathering skills to support problem‑solving and technical decision‑making. Ability to deliver presentations, manage multiple concurrent projects. Preferred Qualifications Fundamental Engineering (FE) preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred. Education Requirements Possess a 4‑year Engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET. Possess a 4‑year Engineering degree from an institution outside the U.S. which is accredited through the country’s own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country’s accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved. Possess a 4‑year degree in Engineering (non‑ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post‑graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET‑accredited. Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license. Working Conditions Cold – up to 25% Confined spaces – up to 25% Dust / Grease / Oil – up to 25% Energized Wires – up to 25% Fumes – up to 25% Heat – up to 25% Loud Noise – up to 25% Outdoors – up to 25% Pressurized Lines & Valves – up to 25% Travel – up to 25% Other Working Conditions Work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays, especially in outage seasons. Office environment (60%) and Power Station environment (40%). Travel time – 40% (will be able to be home most of the time). Approximately 15% will be overnight. May include work in high places from scaffolding. May include work in tight, confined spaces. May include work in dusty, dirty spaces.
