Business Data Analyst

Job Title: Business Data Analyst Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid) We are currently seeking candidates who meet the following qualifications: Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong experience as a Business Analyst or Business Data Analyst in an enterprise IT environment. Experience working in state government or large enterprise environments following formal SDLC processes. Strong experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements. Experience analyzing and documenting business processes, including current-state and future-state process flows and data flow diagrams. Experience performing data analysis, profiling, validation, and documentation of data elements, definitions, and business rules. Extensive hands‑on experience writing and interpreting complex SQL queries, joins, and aggregations for data analysis and validation. Experience engaging business stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and validate requirements. Experience translating business requirements into functional and data requirements documentation and BRDs. Experience defining and documenting business measures, metrics, and KPIs. Experience working with reporting and analytics teams to define report specifications and data sourcing requirements. Experience performing gap analysis between current-state business processes/data and desired future-state outcomes. Experience supporting UAT, including developing test scenarios and test cases based on documented requirements. Strong communication, facilitation, analytical, and documentation skills. Preferred Skills Project management experience. PMP certification or experience. Experience with data governance. Experience with enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives. Experience collaborating with data engineers, architects, reporting teams, and business stakeholders. Experience preparing cost/benefit, ROI, and buy/build analyses. Experience in business process reengineering and technology solution evaluation. Key Responsibilities Review, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user needs. Formulate systems and solutions that align with overall business strategies. Serve as a liaison between the business community and Customer IT teams. Perform business process reengineering and identify new applications of technology to improve business effectiveness. Analyze raw data and perform detailed data analysis to support business and technology initiatives. Conduct requirements elicitation through workshops, interviews, and facilitated sessions with business stakeholders. Analyze and document current-state (as-is) and future-state (to-be) business processes. Develop business process maps and data flow diagrams. Perform data profiling, data validation, source-to-target mapping, and data element documentation. Perform complex SQL analysis, including queries, joins, aggregations, data validation, and ad hoc investigation against relational databases. Translate business requirements into functional requirements, data requirements, and Business Requirements Documents (BRDs). Define and document business rules, business measures, metrics, KPIs, data dictionaries, and data lineage. Perform gap analysis between current business processes/data and desired future-state outcomes. Prepare solution options, identify risks, and perform financial analyses such as cost/benefit, ROI, and buy/build analysis. Support data governance initiatives and enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives. Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, architects, reporting teams, and technical teams throughout the SDLC. Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including development of test scenarios and test cases based on documented requirements. Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
