Job Description

Job Title: Inventory Specialist - $21/hr

Job Description

The Inventory Specialist works in the kitting area of a warehouse environment and is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records by using multiple computer systems and performing physical counts. This role combines analytical computer-based work with hands-on material handling, including operating stand-up forklifts and electric carts to locate, verify, and reconcile inventory throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Work approximately 70% of the time on a computer, 20% operating material movement equipment such as stand-up forklifts and electric carts, and 10% walking the facility to locate and verify inventory.
  • Use multiple computer systems daily, including proprietary inventory systems, web-based programs, Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, SAP, ERP systems, and order tracking tools to manage and track inventory data.
  • Print inventory reports, pick lists, and audit documents generated through internal systems and use them to conduct accurate physical counts throughout the building.
  • Ensure that physical inventory matches system records by comparing on-hand quantities to system data and correcting discrepancies as needed.
  • Take ownership of inventory counts and records, maintaining high accuracy and integrity of all inventory data.
  • Perform physical counts of inventory as needed to confirm that the correct quantity and parts are located where the system indicates.
  • Locate and resolve issues with missing or misallocated inventory that does not accurately appear in the system.
  • Use RF scanners and other inventory control tools to track, sort, and verify products in the warehouse.
  • Support shipping, receiving, sorting, and general inventory control activities to maintain smooth material flow.
  • Operate stand-up forklifts, man-up equipment, and electric carts safely while working at heights and in close proximity to warehouse racks and ceilings.
  • Enter accurate data into various web-based and database tracking systems, ensuring timely and precise updates to inventory records.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to solve inventory problems, identify root causes of discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain strong attendance and reliability, especially during the initial training period when no time off is allowed.
  • Participate in and successfully complete classroom and hands-on training, including written and practical exams for forklift operation and system usage.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including use of required personal protective equipment, and follow warehouse and equipment operating guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to navigate and work confidently in multiple computer systems with a high level of aptitude.
  • Demonstrated experience with data entry in web-based and database inventory tracking systems.
  • Previous experience operating forklifts, including stand-up and man-up equipment, in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a warehouse or manufacturing facility.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and Outlook or similar email and spreadsheet programs.
  • Experience with inventory tracking, inventory control, and maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Comfort operating forklifts and electric carts at heights while using harnesses and working close to the ceiling to pick parts.
  • Ability to bend, twist, and lift as needed to count and locate product throughout the building.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in both physical counts and system data entry.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance, supported by references demonstrating strong work ethic.
  • Desire to work in a role focused on solving inventory issues, identifying discrepancies, and correcting them.
  • Comfort working with RF scanners and order tracking systems in a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including 10-hour days and frequent overtime, as required.

Why Work Here?

This opportunity offers a strong blend of analytical and hands-on work for individuals who enjoy solving problems and improving processes. You spend most of your time working with computer systems and data while still staying active on the warehouse floor, providing variety in your day. The role includes a structured training program that builds both technical and operational skills, supporting long-term professional growth. You benefit from a clear overtime structure and predictable breaks, along with the chance to develop expertise in modern inventory systems, material handling equipment, and ERP platforms in a large, fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse setting, primarily in the kitting area. Work is performed across three potential shifts: 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. A typical workweek is 50 or more hours, with 10-hour days and frequent overtime. Up to 4 hours of overtime per day can be offered. Saturdays can be mandated for up to two weeks in a row, while Sundays are voluntary overtime. You receive a 10-minute break approximately every 2 hours and a 20-minute paid lunch. The first two weeks consist of classroom-based training: Week 1 focuses on forklift and material handling equipment training with written and hands-on exams, and Week 2 focuses on learning the inventory and computer systems with testing at the end of the week. In Week 3, you transition to on-the-job training on your assigned shift. The environment involves regular use of computers, proprietary inventory systems, web-based programs, Microsoft Office, Outlook, SAP, ERP systems, RF scanners, and order tracking tools. Work includes operating stand-up and man-up forklifts and electric carts, often at height within warehouse racks. The role is physically active, requiring walking, bending, twisting, lifting, and working in a busy warehouse around material handling equipment. The dress code requires steel-toed shoes, work pants, a bump cap, a high-visibility vest, and safety glasses, with strict adherence to all safety and PPE requirements.
