Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology - Physician

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI) are seeking Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologists to join the Division of Heart Failure, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support on the campus of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. This opportunity presents the ability to contribute to one of the top cardiovascular transplant programs in the world and blend clinical excellence with academic & research initiatives.

Position Overview

Candidates should be board certified or board eligible in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology and demonstrate expertise in the evaluation and management of patients with advanced heart failure and/or heart transplantation. Physicians at all career stages are encouraged to apply. Leadership opportunities are available for candidates with the appropriate credentials and expertise.

The successful candidate will participate in the comprehensive care of patients with advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathies, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation, while contributing to the clinical, educational, and academic missions of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

About Vanderbilt's Heart Failure & Transplant Program

Based in Nashville, Tennessee , with satellite locations throughout the region, Vanderbilt's Heart Failure and Transplant Program is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program dedicated to the care of patients with advanced cardiovascular disease. In 2025, Vanderbilt performed 195 adult heart transplantations, more than any other center in the country.

The program includes:

• 14 heart failure and transplant cardiologists
• 6 heart transplant and VAD surgeons
• A large team of specialized heart failure nurses and advanced practice providers
• Nearly 13,000 annual visits across heart failure and cardiomyopathy clinics
• Specialized programs in remote hemodynamic monitoring , cardiac amyloidosis, cardiac sarcoidosis, and hypertrophic and other genetic cardiomyopathies
• One of the highest-volume heart transplant programs in the world

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to practice in a sophisticated academic environment with extensive resources, a diverse and complex patient population, and significant opportunities for collaboration across cardiovascular subspecialties.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of an accredited cardiovascular disease fellowship
• Fellowship training and/or eligibility for certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology
• Board certification or eligibility for certification in the appropriate cardiovascular specialties
• Demonstrated clinical expertise in advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, mechanical circulatory support, and/or heart transplantation
• Strong commitment to multidisciplinary patient care, medical education, and academic medicine
