General Summary & Scope The General Manager (GM) leads through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high‑performing team that consistently delivers top‑line sales growth for the store. The GM drives the store’s business through a focus on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (standard operating procedures and compliance standards). This role requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead, influence, and develop a team. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beauty’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink. Drive company profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control. Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling needs, maximize productivity, and achieve sales and payroll goals. Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audit results to meet Ulta Beauty’s goals and drive profitability. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience. Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the GM and hold all store associates accountable to the Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent and efficiently manage staffing needs. Address policy violations with appropriate corrective action, in partnership with the DM and People Success. Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through effective collaboration and open communication. Create an inclusive environment that inspires growth and engagement of associates. Lead all aspects of manager and associate development, including training, competency‑based feedback, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans. Ensure direct reports regularly participate in ongoing training, including brand and category education. Model a culture of open communication by sharing enterprise strategy and aligning goals with Ulta Beauty’s objectives. Promote teamwork, prioritize tasks, and provide clear direction. Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program to drive business results across all Annual Performance Goal metrics. Process Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to and enforce the dress code. Use the scheduling tool to schedule the right associates at the right times. Use the task management tool to prioritize store workload and enforce company policy. Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention standards. Execute day‑to‑day inventory control processes and complete theft reporting as necessary. Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology. Communicate operational trends, challenges, and opportunities to field leadership. Job Qualification Education Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience 3‑5+ years of fast‑paced retail management or related experience. Financial management: driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expense. Retail management: monitoring inventory levels, achieving operational excellence, driving a service culture, and executing merchandising directives. Leadership management: attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, adapting to change, and influencing teams. Skills Proficient with basic technology (POS system, Microsoft Office, Apple devices). Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks. Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and adapt to change. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible, full‑time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be available to close the store at least once per week. Attend corporate business meetings and conferences, including overnight stays and interstate travel. Maintain valid identification for airline travel. Working Conditions Frequent use of computer, telephone, and related supplies. Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift. Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, twisting, lifting, carrying, or moving up to 25 lbs. Continuous walking, coordination, and object manipulation during shift. Benefits The pay range for this position is $76,960.00 – $104,000.00 per year with the opportunity for bonus compensation. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
