Contemporary/Modern Service Worship Leader

St. James United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is seeking a worship leader for the relaunch of our contemporary/modern service. This is a part-time staff position which begins August 1, 2021. The worship leader will be responsible for the planning, preparation and coordination of all aspects of music for the service. Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills are essential. Candidates must be: A person of the Christian faith. Capable of recruiting and leading a team of volunteer musicians. A skilled musician. Willing to speak/pray in front of our congregation. Work well within a ministry team. Duties will include and not limited to: Set up for 9:45am for service. Lead worship at the 9:45am service. Schedule and lead at least 1 hour of rehearsal per week with volunteer musicians. In connection with the pastor(s), select appropriate and meaningful music for each service. Plan at least four weeks ahead on music selection for worship. Submit worship information by designated due date. Occasionally participate in 10:30am traditional worship. Attend worship committee meetings as needed. Salary: $100-$200 a week, commensurate with skills and experience. Hours: Approximately six hours per week.
