Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Job Description

Seeking a Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to perform daily operation and maintenance tasks at a water/wastewater treatment plant, including equipment maintenance, quality control testing, and process monitoring on an assigned shift. This role typically holds, or is working toward, an intermediate-level water/wastewater treatment certification.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent
• Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels
• Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter/gauge readings
• Operate valves and gates manually or by remote control
• Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control treatment processes
• Maintain shift logs and record meter/gauge readings
• Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses
• Perform routine maintenance and custodial duties
• Make operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel
• Follow oral and written instructions
• Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work
• Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Florida Class C Wastewater License, or Class C Water License and willing to obtain wastewater certification
• One year of experience operating water/wastewater treatment plants
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment plant operations, including valves, pumps, and motors
• Knowledge of bacteriological and chemical sewage analysis principles
• Understanding of industrial waste effects on treatment processes
• Safe work practices
