Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is a detail-oriented and analytical finance professional responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of Foot Levelers' financial records and reporting. This role plays a key part in maintaining strong financial controls, supporting leadership with meaningful financial insights, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory agencies, and company policies.

With a balance of technical accounting expertise and proactive problem-solving, the Senior Accountant partners closely with the Finance team and cross-functional leaders to support month-end close, financial reporting, and continuous process improvement. This position requires a high level of accountability, organization, and initiative while operating in alignment with Foot Levelers' values of Love and Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate general ledger entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Lead and support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met with accuracy and consistency.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and schedules for internal leadership review.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing historical data, trend analysis, and financial insights.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Partner with external auditors and tax partners, and support audit requests, documentation, and follow-up items.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure proper accounting treatment and financial alignment.
  • Assist in the ongoing optimization of ERP systems, workflows, and reporting tools.
  • Mentor and support junior accounting team members, providing guidance and knowledge-sharing as needed.

Key Competencies & Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA, CMA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong ERP experience required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience in a manufacturing setting and cost allocations required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills — able to clearly explain financial information to non-financial partners.

Work Location & Schedule

  • Primary location: Roanoke, Va.
  • Regular hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule as necessary to support month-end close, audits, and business needs.

Work Environment

  • Position is primarily indoors in a professional office environment.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing systems.
  • Work involves periods of sitting, with occasional standing, walking, and light lifting.
  • Moderate noise level consistent with an office setting.

Communication Requirements

  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly convey financial information to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong active listening skills to understand business needs and financial impacts.
  • Regular interaction with Finance team members, leadership, and other departments via phone, email, and in-person meetings.

Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily sedentary, performed in an office environment.
  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer workstation are required.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., training materials, small office equipment).
