Medical Support Assistant

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) is part of a team that collaborates with Primary Care Providers using several different types of Telehealth in-home messaging devices, with the objectives of improving communication among the Veteran, the family/significant other, and the Primary Care/Specialty Care Providers, improving chronic disease management, improving patient satisfaction, increasing access to services, and reducing resource utilization thus decreasing healthcare costs.

Major duties include (but not limited to):

• Provide immediate access to services including symptom control, psychological, social, spiritual support, in-home referrals, or inpatient care referrals when indicated.
• Collaborate with specialty care providers such as Oncology, Infectious Disease, Endocrine, and Anesthesia using secure video conferencing technology.
• Work in partnership with the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) to establish patient centered care providing multiple specialties in the Veterans community.
• Utilize smart devices to connect providers to patients anywhere.
• Schedule Telehealth Synchronous Video appointments, scheduling VA Video Connect appointments, and assisting with patient technology screenings.
• Coordinate schedules for patients, providers, and VA locations.
• Assist with any future, proposals/projects that are implemented.
• Primary point of contact for the VA Video Connect (VVC) Program for patients, Medical Center staff, VISN staff, community agencies, and various others who contact this office.
• Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors to determine the nature of the business.
• Determine the general nature of inquiries and independently responds to all administrative questions.
• Independently recognize and refer urgent inquires to professional staff for immediate actions.
• Responds to inquiries from patients, family members and caregivers.
• Coordinate activities of the service/program with medical support services throughout the organization.
• Participate in performance improvement activities aimed at improving the efficiency of the patient Telehealth processes.
• Analyze workflow to determine potential problem areas and recommends corrective action to improve coordination between various services.
• Prepare and submit Travel and Training Requests.
• Prepare minutes from monthly staff meetings for the Telehealth Committee.
• Special Duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
