New Graduate Registered Nurse - RN

Purpose and Scope Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team as a Registered Nurse under the direction of a Staff Registered Nurse, ensuring the provision of quality patient care in accordance with FMS policies, procedures, and training. Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy, and participates in process improvement activities that enhance patient satisfaction and quality enhancement goals. Adheres to all requirements of the FMCNA Compliance Program and FMS patient care and administrative policies. Employees must obtain their nursing license and registration within 90 days of hire or within the timeframe outlined in state regulations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Staff Related: Directs Patient Care Technician’s provision of safe and effective chronic hemodialysis therapy. Delegates tasks to LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Dialysis Assistants. Assesses daily patient care needs and develops patient care assignments. Monitors staff techniques and adherence to facility policy. Participates in staff training, orientation, and required staff meetings. Patient Related: Educates patients and families about End Stage Renal Disease, vascular access, dialysis therapy, diet, fluid, and medication compliance. Provides detailed education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and transplant awareness. Delivers safe and effective dialysis treatment, implementing prescription and adjusting treatment plans as needed. Initiates and conducts ongoing nursing assessments, documentation, and care evaluations. Monitors patients for adequacy status changes and addresses access flow issues. Laboratory Related: Reviews, transcribes, and enters physician lab orders into the Medical Information System. Prepares lab requisitions, selects appropriate tubes, and ensures proper specimen handling and notification of abnormal results. General Duties: Enforces company and regulatory policies, maintains shift operations, and acts as a resource for staff. Collaborates with physicians and team members to coordinate patient care. Assists with prescription refills and ensures timely transcription of orders. Maintains facility drug list, initiates emergency procedures, and ensures availability of emergency equipment. Administers medications as prescribed and documents controlled substance records. Maintenance / Technical: Maintains the facility environment safe and keeps equipment operational. Medical Records & Documentation: Ensures accurate entry of physician orders, lab results, vitals, and treatment parameters into the Medical Information System. Verifies completion of treatment sheets and compliance with admission, transfer, and discharge policies. Completes monthly CQI activities and nurses’ progress notes. Reviews transplant status, completes patient care plans, and completes annual assessments. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Requires frequent, prolonged standing, bending, and handling of patients and equipment up to 200 lbs. Exposure to infectious materials may occur. Reasonable accommodations available. Must complete Ishihara’s color blindness test. Education Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months. Experience and Required Skills 0 – 1 year’s related experience. Must obtain nursing license and registration within 90 days of hire or according to state regulations.
