The Apprentice Welding Equipment Technician is responsible for learning the troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, and repair of welding equipment under the guidance of experienced technicians. This position provides hands-on training with electric and engine-driven welding machines and related equipment while developing technical, mechanical, and customer service skills. Work is performed both in the shop and occasionally at customer locations.

 

Job Responsibilities

• Assist technicians with the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of welding equipment.
• Assist customers with the safe loading and unloading of equipment for repair, rental, and service.
• Develop knowledge of equipment operation and diagnostic procedures to identify problems and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Assist with equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, functional testing, and final inspections.
• Identify replacement parts and locate accurate part numbers using manufacturer manuals, parts catalogs, and electronic systems.
• Maintain accurate and timely work order documentation, including labor performed, parts used, and equipment service details.
• Provide professional, courteous, and responsive customer service in person and over the phone.
• Support overall shop operations by assisting with equipment organization, inventory, housekeeping, and other assigned activities.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support service department objectives.

Job Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Enrollment in or completion of a technical, vocational, or trade school program in welding, electronics, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
• Previous mechanical, welding, or electrical experience is preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license required, CDL a Plus.

Safety Requirements:

• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Complete required safety training and maintain applicable certifications.
• Safely operate forklifts and other company vehicles following required training.
• Participate in monthly safety meetings, technical training, and other professional development programs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop, work area and work bench.
• Comfort working in environments with exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, or vibrations .
