Position Overview

Announcement: Our organization has experienced significant growth since opening as an independent hospital in 2002. The Emergency Department at our main campus serves over 90,000 pediatric patients annually and is recognized as the only free-standing level one pediatric trauma center in the state. Located in Maricopa County, one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S., we have expanded our facilities, divisions, and training programs, which now include fellowships in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Urgent Care.

We are eager to enhance our Urgent Care coverage and are seeking EXPERIENCED Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to join our team alongside our physicians. This role involves a combination of Urgent Care and low-acuity Emergency Department shifts. Currently, we operate five Urgent Care centers from 5 PM to midnight on weekdays and from 10 AM to 8 PM on weekends. Providers will evaluate and deliver evidence-based care to pediatric patients under the supervision of the Medical Director.

This position requires building strong relationships with patients, families, fellow physicians, staff, and volunteers. Our Urgent Care facilities are equipped to perform basic radiographs and laboratory tests, including urinalysis, blood sugar checks, rapid strep tests, and rapid flu tests during the winter months. While we can send COVID tests, rapid testing is not available at this time.

In this role, you will assess and treat acute injuries and illnesses, perform procedures such as abscess drainage, foreign body removal, and laceration repairs using sutures, staples, and dermal adhesives. You will also focus on improving efficiency metrics to enhance patient flow, experience, and throughput.

Qualifications:

• Pediatric experience is essential.
• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Arizona, or to be obtained by the start date.
• Valid Arizona state license.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
• Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills.

This role involves collaboration with attending physicians and operates within the established scope of practice to deliver outstanding clinical care. You will play a vital role in the patient and family medical team, with opportunities to practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough health histories, physical assessments, and care plans for infants, children, and young adults with both acute and chronic health issues, utilizing advanced assessment skills to manage a patient cohort.
• Order and prescribe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, along with performing therapeutic or corrective measures to enhance health outcomes.
• Develop family-centered care plans and document daily as required, coordinating care with other team members.
• Collect and analyze data as necessary.
• Perform advanced procedures as permitted by the credentialing process.
• Implement the latest evidence-based practices for care plans, adjusting them based on family needs and effectiveness.
• Act as an educational resource for patients, families, nursing staff, and other healthcare teams as needed.
• Engage in personal professional development by maintaining required competencies, renewing certifications, seeking educational opportunities, and mentoring others, including Advanced Practice Provider students, residents, and medical students.
• Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by addressing concerns appropriately, reporting through the correct channels, and ensuring necessary changes in practice.
