Registered Pharmacist

Position Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Registered Pharmacist provides indirect patient care. The Registered Pharmacist works with nurses, peers, physicians and other members of the healthcare team in the delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients. The Registered Pharmacist reviews the patient's medication orders against the patient's medication profile in accordance with hospital and pharmacy philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. The Registered Pharmacist demonstrates leadership/management skills and a commitment to customer service, professional accountability, and growth. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Understands and adheres to the Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Utilizes all aspects of the Pharmacy process to meet the age-specific needs of patients in medication education, safety, and patient rights in work practice. Utilizes and monitors methods of Infection Control, participates in the PI and Risk Management programs, and demonstrates competency by completing all established standards. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process, including recognition, data collection, priority setting, resource utilization, and offering of suggestions through collaboration with the healthcare team. Maintains productivity through punctuality, observing time limits on breaks, using periods of low activity for pharmacy or patient benefit, effective time management, and consistent performance that ensures social or personal activities do not interfere with work. Shows interest and commitment through attendance at in-services, participation in projects/PI, maturation towards self-development, and maintaining current required license requirements. Assumes accountability for completion of competency standards and accepts constructive criticism, following through to implement corrective measures. Is cooperative and professional in the response to change, assistance to peers, and effective communication among the healthcare team. Flexibility in staffing and adjustment to assignments. Maintains a positive attitude with positive responses requiring conflict resolution. Practices cost containment measures. Adheres to all policies and procedures, dress code, code of conduct, customer service, and meets all mandatory inservices and standards for attendance. Supervises Pharmacy Assistants. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements Graduate from an accredited school of Pharmacy with a minimum of a BS in Pharmacy. Current New York registration. Successful completion of Hospital and Departmental Orientation Program, according to hospital and Pharmacy policy and procedure. Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role model. Communicates effectively in written and verbal English. Position requires ability to ambulate, sit/stand for extended periods, perform difficult manipulative arm-hand steadiness and hand‑eye coordination skills, and must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements. Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail, with interruption, and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. The individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day. Sees objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noise. Tasks that involve exposure to chemotherapeutic agents require knowledge and use of Universal Precaution techniques. Must be physically able to ambulate or remain stationary for extended periods. Must be able to perform word processing/computer work and use transcription equipment for extended periods. Uses coordination and dexterity to operate word processing, remove and install toners/ink, labels, etc. Must be physically able to move, remove, and transport heavy objects more than 30 lbs. Must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and with distractions. Performs repetitive functions.
