The RN 2 identifies patterns of patient responses and can use past experiences to implement solutions for current situations. The RN 2 continues to consult with other members of the health care team when the need for assistance is identified. The RN 2 exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Qualifications Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required. Maintain current BLS certification. Earned nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher. (See note on transfers.) May accept Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) effective 1/9/23 up to approved number of ADN hires by Chief Nursing Officer with stipulation of baccalaureate degree within timeframe. Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations. Abilities Walk throughout the Medical Center; standing or walking most of shift. Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs and positioning patients who may exceed 300 lbs. Check documents for errors, use keyboard to enter or retrieve data, examine specimens / reports. Perform procedures with risk of injury / infection / chemical exposure. Responsibilities Participate in collection of data to support unit based quality initiatives, research and evidence-based activities. Utilize system wide resources to support decision making and action. Recognize patterns or groupings of problems in a specific patient population that require investigation and initiate actions. Communicate current evidence-based information with peers. Establish caring therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication and acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes. Collaborate consistently and effectively with other disciplines and services to meet needs of patients/families. Utilize competent assessment skills to holistically evaluate physical and psychosocial needs of patients and families. Prioritize care for complex patients based on knowledge from previous clinical experiences. Respond consistently and effectively to changes in patient status. Show safe and effective use of medical devices in delivery of patient care. Implement policies related to safe and effective administration of medications. Assess patient safety needs and implement strategies (fall precautions, infection control, suicide risk identification) to minimize risk. Individualize teaching plans based on thorough assessment to meet learning needs of patients and families. Provide education to staff and students on unit. Demonstrate beginning leadership skills related to patient care. Delegate effectively to optimize patient outcomes. Account for own professional practice, including progress toward annual goals.
