Job Title Facilities Maintenance Technician Compensation $20.63 – $22.69, depending on qualifications and experience ($42,910.40 - $47,195.20 annually) Plus $2,000 annual transportation allowance (paid over 26 pay periods) Up to 5% salary increase upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period Job Overview The City of Brentwood is seeking a dependable and skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to help maintain City buildings, facilities, and grounds. This is a hands‑on maintenance position with a variety of work that helps keep City facilities safe, functional, and operating efficiently. Work includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, general building repairs, work order response, and support for inspections, projects, and contractor coordination. Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on City buildings, facilities, and related grounds. Help identify, troubleshoot, and correct issues involving HVAC components, plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, doors, locks, lighting, ceilings, walls, flooring, roofs, gutters, generators, irrigation systems, exhaust systems, and other building features. Complete general building repair and upkeep tasks such as painting, drywall patching, caulking, replacing ceiling tiles, adjusting doors, repairing hardware, changing filters, unclogging drains and toilets, and replacing fixtures. Respond to work orders and service requests in a timely manner and document labor, materials, and completion status. Assist with facility inspections, contractor coordination, and preparation for maintenance visits, projects, and special activities. Maintain tools, ladders, maintenance equipment, supplies, storage areas, and shop areas in safe working order. Support exterior facility upkeep, including pressure washing, debris removal, minor landscaping support, sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, storm preparation/recovery, and snow/ice response as assigned. Use basic software and maintenance tracking systems to receive assignments and document completed work. Ideal Candidate Has hands‑on experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, mechanical repair, or a related trade. Enjoys a variety of work and can shift between priorities as needed. Can troubleshoot common maintenance issues and complete quality work safely and efficiently. Works well independently and as part of a team. Is dependable, takes pride in their work, and helps keep buildings safe, functional, and in good working order. Communicates professionally with supervisors, contractors, and City staff. Minimum Training and Experience Required Vocational or technical training in building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or a related field is preferred. Two years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, mechanical repair, or a closely related field is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid Driver’s License is required. Experience operating hand tools, power tools, ladders, and general maintenance equipment is required. Due to the nature of this position, selected candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to seventy‑five pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for medium work. Manual Dexterity – Ability to handle a variety of items, tools, and equipment with coordinated hand movements. Color Discrimination – May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament – Ability to deal with people beyond instructions, including public, and remain adaptable under minimal stress.
