Role Description The Chaplain is a full-time, on-site role based at CHRISTUS St Frances Cabrini in Alexandria, LA. This role provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and team members through presence, conversation, prayer, and appropriate rituals according to individual needs and preferences. The Chaplain responds to referrals and consults from clinical staff, participates in patient care planning, and offers support during crises, end-of-life situations, and times of grief. Daily responsibilities include visiting patient rooms, documenting spiritual care encounters, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and helping connect individuals with faith or community resources. The Chaplain may also assist with worship services, memorials, and educational programs that promote holistic care within the hospital. Qualifications Formal theological or ministerial education (e.g., bachelor’s or master’s degree in theology, ministry, religious studies, or related field) and completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent supervised pastoral training. Demonstrated skills in spiritual assessment, pastoral counseling, and providing faith-appropriate support, including prayer, rituals, and grief care for individuals from diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members. Ability to maintain professional boundaries, respect confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards in a healthcare setting, including familiarity with HIPAA and hospital policies. Experience or strong interest in hospital or healthcare chaplaincy, including comfort working with serious illness, trauma, and end-of-life situations. Organizational and documentation skills, including timely charting of spiritual care encounters and effective management of referrals and follow-up. Certification or eligibility for certification with a recognized chaplaincy or pastoral care organization (e.g., APC, NACC, NAJC, or similar) is highly preferred.
