Principal Manufacturing Engineer (Contract)Sigma Design has collaborated with a consumer electronics company seeking an experienced Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join their facility in Redmond, WA. This position is a contract with an expected duration of 12 months. This role is In-Office.The hiring range for this role is typically between $136,000 and $159,000 annually, with the full range extending to $180,000 annually, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression. Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Multiple options for medical insurance and dental insurance including some with FSA and HSA. 401(k) with up to 4% company match. 15-days of accrued PTO and 9 company paid holidays. Voluntary benefits: vision, long-term disability, and life insurance.Primary FunctionThe Principal Manufacturing Engineer develops and scales manufacturing processes for advanced hardware prototypes from concept through pilot production. This role partners with cross-functional engineering teams to design, build, and validate reliable, high-performance prototype systems while driving Design for Manufacturing, system integration, and process development. The ideal candidate is comfortable leading technical initiatives in a fast-paced R&D environment with evolving requirements and emerging technologies.Essential Job Functions - ResponsibilitiesDevelop and scale manufacturing processes from concept through pilot production for advanced hardware prototypesLead manufacturing engineering activities, system integration efforts, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFx) initiatives across cross-functional teamsDesign and implement process development plans, including Design of Experiments, process validation, and quality control strategiesDevelop manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, work instructions, and process documentation to support prototype buildsCollaborate with design, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to improve manufacturability and product performanceEvaluate and implement manufacturing techniques for electromechanical assemblies, polymer processing, adhesives, lamination, textiles, and related fabrication methodsSupport the growth of in-house manufacturing capabilities and collaborate with external manufacturing partnersTroubleshoot manufacturing challenges and drive continuous process improvementsMentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on manufacturing projectsFollow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrencesEducation and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred8+ years of experience developing manufacturing processes and scaling products from concept to pilot production or manufacturingExperience designing process development plans, Design of Experiments (DOE), and implementing quality control proceduresStrong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), or Design for Excellence (DFx)Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, including electromechanical integration, polymer processing, adhesives, lamination, textiles, or related manufacturing techniquesDemonstrated project leadership and experience working with cross-functional engineering teamsProficiency with CAD software (NX or similar) and Microsoft Office applicationsStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced R&D environmentDemonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core ValuesCompliance (background check, ITAR, vaccine, etc.)ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States ("U.S. person" as defined by ITAR)Background - Pass a post-offer background verification.Work Environment Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions.
