PICU RN Requirements

Experience:

1 year required; previous PICU experience required for PICU placement.
License:

Active Illinois RN license or application initiated.
Certifications:

BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA).
Shift:

12-hour nights, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM.
Patient Ratio:

1:1–1:2.
Trauma Level:

Level I.
EMR:

EPIC.
Unit Capacity:

16 PICU beds and 16 intermediate-care beds.
Patient Population:

Pediatric medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiovascular critical-care patients.
Required Skills:

PICU experience, bedside cardiac monitoring, rhythm recognition, and knowledge of appropriate interventions.
Equipment:

Ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and home ventilators.
Floating:

Required to pediatric intermediate care and lower levels of care. NICU/NIC floating is optional.
Weekends:

Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights).
Holidays:

May require one major and one minor holiday.
Call:

Not required.
