Job Title: Yard Jockey
Job Description

Drive a flatbed throughout the yard to transport steel beams and assist in backing up and prepping for loads coming in and out of the facility. Initially, you will spend most of your time learning the placement of materials and the three areas where steel and steel plates are stored.

Responsibilities

• Transport steel beams using a flatbed within the yard.
• Assist in backing up and preparing loads for transport.
• Learn and remember locations of stored products.
• Adhere to all safety rules while working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems.
• Document inventory accurately using paper and WMS with proficient computer skills.
• Work collaboratively with a trainer and team to ensure safety and efficiency.

Essential Skills

• Ability to learn and retain information based on color coding system for inventory.
• Proficient in inventory management and control.
• Experience in warehouse inventory, heavy industry, and material handling.
• Valid CDL license is a plus, but not required.
• 1-2 years of experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to memorize locations and timeframes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with equipment operation, cranes, truck loading, and driving.
• Familiarity with forklift, bobcat, overhead crane, and rigging is advantageous.
• Interest in obtaining a CDL is beneficial.
• Experience working in industrial or construction environments preferred.

Work Environment

Work both inside and outside, with steel stored in building and two separate yards. Expect temperature extremes, with hot summers and cold winters. The environment is construction-like, requiring hard hats, steel-toed boots, and safety vests.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
