Collections Specialist

Collection Specialist – Part Time Temporary Orthopaedic South Surgical Center is seeking a Collection Specialist for a part‑time temporary 6‑month position. Job Summary Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Collections Specialist follows up on delinquent surgery center claims, manages an expected number of claims per day, and works with various insurance carriers. Responsibilities include interpreting managed care contracts, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers Compensation claims, calculating allowable and required reimbursements, appealing claims, and communicating with carriers and patients regarding out‑of‑pocket amounts. Qualifications 1‑2 years previous collections experience, with emphasis on healthcare insurance collections of all types. Preference shown to previous experience in an ambulatory surgical setting. Must be able to pass credit check. Preferred previous experience working with Advantx (Patient Accounting System). Ability to work independently. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Skilled in time management and prioritization of emergent situations. Good customer service skills and a professional demeanor. Comfortable utilizing critical thinking skills. High School Diploma or equivalency. Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Experience with electronic patient information systems. Preferred previous experience with an Electronic Health Record system.
